Ricochet is the best place on the internet to discuss the issues of the day, either through commenting on posts or writing your own for our active and dynamic community in a fully moderated environment. In addition, the Ricochet Audio Network offers over 50 original podcasts with new episodes released every day.
Due to some scheduling issues, we’re a couple of days early this week but that doesn’t mean we’re scrimping on the content. James is taking this week off, so Rob and Peter drive the bus themselves (as Peter mentions in the show, do check out James’ Twitter feed). We’re not scrimping on the guests either: we’ve got Washington Post chief political correspondent (and former Ricochet podcaster) Bob Costa on The Squad, Nancy, Bernie, 2020, and more. Then, Law Talk co-host John Yoo stops by to discuss the passing of Justice John Paul Stevens, some of the recent SCOTUS rulings, and to call out Rob Long for his many imperfections. Finally, Rob and Peter give some binge TV tips. What are you watching? Tell us in the comments.
Music from this week’s show: The Wayfarer by Bruce Springsteen

Fair enough. But I’m still surprised. Friedkin and Schneider are big names, and although I was just a kid in the 70’s, looking at IMDB I am familiar with most of their film credits. Never heard of this one. Live and learn I suppose.
For an ex-National Review and Ricochet guy he has been totally house trained at the Post. His twitter feed pushes left wing talking points, even taking time out to praise Andrea Mitchell.
He probably has to, given his, er, questionable early ties.
There is, of course, an alternative explanation. Here’s something I wrote earlier in the year:
Let’s say you can’t get the job you want in the liberal media, so you get a job in the conservative media, where there’s less competition.
At the right time, you write a magazine article or even a book, “from the belly of the beast“, in which, more in sorrow than in anger, you tell how your eyes were opened to the evil and the corruption of conservatives and conservatism.
Now you’re in a position to get that job in the liberal media you wanted in the first place. As long as you keep telling them what they want to hear, liberals will treat you as an expert on conservatism for decades to come. Kevin Phillips has been milking this since before most Ricochet members were born.
People shouted “send her back” the other night because of what Omar says and how she feels about her country, the United States. Her skin color had nothing to do with it. Unlike Omar, most immigrants love the US and are happy to be here. If Omar wants to hide behind a false charge of racism that’s her business, but I think it’s pathetic. The news media hides behind the false charge of racism, too. And that’s also pathetic. The racism charge is the equivalent of a safe space, a refuge from which to shut out the voices of those with whom she disagrees.
I didn’t know anything about this old film, although I heard the theme music somewhere (maybe it was just segue music that I Shazammed from some podcast) and added it to my iTunes library about three years ago. Although I like the music, it sounded like it came from some old British futuristic Dr Who spinoff cult movie that I probably wouldn’t care for. I never gathered enough interest to even Google the movie.
Back in the 1970s Tangerine Dream was arguably “the” prog-rock synth band. They also did several movie soundtracks including Sorcerer, The Keep and Legend (although Jerry Goldsmith did the original soundtrack for Legend, but the studio decided to replace it with Tangerine Dream).
One of the group’s members, Christopher Franke, went on to do the soundtrack for the Babylon 5 TV series, but I digress.
Risky Business too:
It really was. Ricochet does a great job of procuring podcasts. I love that you can have dependably good conversations about the podcasts. The flagship is a nice contrast to Hate Radio, but let me be clear I love Hate Radio. lol
Are you just using the MSM term for most if not all conservative talk radio, or is there a podcast somewhere called Hate Radio? If so, where do I get it? :-)
Conservatives need to recognize that 99% of the time charges of racism are false. And grow some balls. They will be called racist regardless of what they say or do.
Bizarrely, they allow themselves to be called un-American, but don’t respond in kind to people who really are un-American.
Though they will never say it out loud, white progressives clearly believe nonwhites are fragile and inferior, and therefore must be coddled. (And no matter how badly some minorities do in the public schools, you will note that white progressives never see a reason to reform the public school system.)
I live in Minneapolis. We have iHeart and Salem and it’s just excellent almost all of the time. I listen to Howie Carr in the afternoons. Joe Walsh overnight is the only one I dislike. Dana Loesch is great but I can’t fit her in.
She’s anti-American the way the far left has always been. Ironically, her behavior is exceedingly western, that of the new immigrant who criticizes and denounces her adopted country. Voltaire did that. Unfortunately for Voltaire, he also kept getting thrown out of his countries. Voltaire asserted the right to denounce his adopted country, but he didn’t secure the right to stay there.
Wilkow, I think, referred to them as the Spice Girls…Jihad Spice, Gaza Spice, Woke Spice, and Squeaky Spice.
I like the Gang of Four or the Four Horsewomen of the Apocalypse.
That’s Horsepersons of the Apocalypse!
Horsebabes. 😜
The four persons of horse.
Horseperdaughters!
I was in China during the trial of the Gang of Four. It really is apt for this bunch of miscreants. People would watch on TV and say “They are so evil!”. https://www.thoughtco.com/the-gang-of-four-195613
Now we’re just feeding a fed horse. 😀
Horseflies of the Apocalypse!
“the female of which is a bloodsucker and inflicts painful bites on horses and other mammals, including humans.”
Stargate SG-1
It’s currently being rerun every day on Robert Rodriguez’s El Rey Network. I’ve greatly enjoyed becoming reacquainted with the series.
The basic concept is “Star Trek” happening right now, run secretly by the United States Air Force. (The positive portrayal of the US military is probably why the show was neglected by critics.)
The El Rey Network is aimed at English-speaking Hispanics.
Which is a bit odd because, as far as I can tell, there is no Hispanic connection to Stargate SG-1. Rodriguez must just like the show. As well he might!
Were either Martin or Charlie Sheen involved? 😜
I’ve wondered about this. What makes English-speaking Hispanics a demographic not already served by other channels?
They want to see shows with other Hispanics also speaking English?
For your sake, @peterrobinson, I hope that your daughter is a vegetarian rather than a vegan. Our daughter was a vegetarian for years, and it was a pain, but doable. But veganism is much more challenging, especially when going out to eat. So much research involved in going to a restaurant.
I think there’s a lot to be said for having someone – including a child – do their own work if they want to be “different.”
“This is what the family is eating. If you want something else, get it yourself.”
If she couldn’t rely on other people doing the work for her, being vegetarian/vegan might not be so appealing.

My sister-in-law decided as a teen to become a vegetarian. Her mother told her that was fine, but she would cook a vegetarian dish for every meal that the family could share. She is still a vegetarian (though she eats fish on occasion, she just didn’t want to eat anything with a face), and a very good cook
Fish have faces.
