I’d agree entirely, Arahant. (Wish to heck I’d thought of that while we were taping the podcast.)
A friend gifted me three Coolidge ’24 campaign pins. Trivia question (no peaking): who was Cool Cal’s runningmate? ·3 hours ago
I’ll look it up on Wikipedia next, but first–in a little display of courage–I’ll take a shot at if off the top of my head. Wasn’t it Wilson (can’t remember the first name). The same guy who said, “What this country needs is a good five-cent cigar?”
Good Lord. I got it completely wrong. The “good five-cent cigar” man was Woodrow Wison’s vice president, Thomas R. Marshall.
I enjoyed this podcast more than most.
More Amity Shales, please!
I use Apple’s podcast app to listen to all of the podcasts, including those behind the great wall of latte. Never had a problem!
Blue your the big blue hairy man, any ideas.
I also can’t find the flagship ricochet podcast on the new iphone podcast app.
Im sure its me I just don’t know what part ·3 minutes ago
Thanks I’ll check those apps out … have a good weekend ·3 hours ago
Paul Simon is a tool. So is Art Garfunkel.
What about “Silent Running (On Dangerous Ground)” by Mike + the Mechanics?
Come to think of it I have listen to everything except the flagship. Gotta love Apple.
I like Silent running reference. That song has been going through my head for weeks.

No offense meant to Mssr. Yeti, who encompasses all that the words “awesome” and “rad” mean to saber-wielding dorks.
That said, because “Silence” is in the song title, and it’s a well-known song, does not make for an excuse. Calvin Coolidge has as much in common with the Simon and Garfunkelian milksops as a taco does with a flagpole. I picture President Barryfunkel bopping his head arhythmically to this same song, snapping his fingers out of time, while chillin’ with his feet up on one of the few Oval Office hassocks that Hillary didn’t steal when she and Bill left 13 years ago.
President Fahr-From-Groovin’. The Anti-Funkinator. An Imperfect Danish.
Soooooo …. sticher on my iphone 4 w/ios 6 only gets 15 mins of what I’ll bet is another fine podcast.

Apple’s podcasting app does not support paywalled podcasts. We suggest Downcast or Instacast. I’ll look into the Stitcher issue. This is the first I’ve heard of that.

Not to be too pedantic, but the reference about the Forgotten Man goes back even farther to a speech given by Sumner in the late 19th century. I didn’t know there was a song about it, though, as James mentioned.
Amity Shlaes: I have read you but not heard you
You got audio game girl !
I have not heard an author serve a better appetizer for their book
My compliments to Peter and his all pro interlocutor chops
Your people should indulge themselves in “O’Reillyan potential” dreams
Millions in the American Association Pragmatic Refrainers (AAPR) are looking for validation of what’s in their head . Like Rob, I think I heard what I’ve been looking for
February of 2013 a fitting point in US history for a 20’s lookback
Anticipation is keeping me waiting
This a clear “Best of” podcast, IMHO, all played their part
Ms Shlaes’ people should cut this podcast up into pithy provocative chunks packaged for multi platform “viralacity”
Rob, pleased to hear after your initial hesitation the positive remarks about Bill Bennett. I, for one, hope he continues to be around for a long time. As far as I can tell, he always elevates the conversation.
How can you talk to Prof. Mead (did he ever do a PhD? I don’t think so, but I’m happy to be corrected) for 20 minutes without spending 15 of them on the Blue Model series?
You need to get him back and make that the exclusive topic.
