Ricochet is the best place on the internet to discuss the issues of the day, either through commenting on posts or writing your own for our active and dynamic community in a fully moderated environment. In addition, the Ricochet Audio Network offers over 50 original podcasts with new episodes released every day.
Sometimes, people ask why we wait until Friday afternoons to publish the podcast. The last couple of weeks should answer that question for at least a while. We’re lucky to have a full contingent of quality guests this week to help us sort through all the outrage, er, news that has accumulated since last week’s show. First up, Ricochet’s own Bethany Mandel who has a few opinions on the Kavanaugh confirmation process. Then, one of our favs: the great Andy Ferguson, who’s been doing some reading and some thinking about all things Trump. Also, courtesy of Rob Long, an insiders view of the Yale grapevine. Suffice to say, Buffy and Biff are upset.
(H/t to Seth Mandel for the title of this week’s episode).
Music from this week’s show: Freddie Freeloader by Miles Davis

I believe the ongoing derisive references to those Republican-leaning publications who organize and promote ocean cruises, and those amongst their staff and contributors who are generally panelists on such cruises, started with Kurt Schlicter of TownHall. If he didn’t start it, he certainly popularized it. The man has a gift for satire.
Rob said that women and men aren’t equal. I hope he meant that they are equal, but not the same.
Do you really think you’re equal to women, Archie?
I did love Andrew Ferguson’s point that many of the Never Trumpers aren’t defending an ideological pure conservatism that Trump has soiled but are in fact liberal Democrats.
And this is important when it comes to electoral success for the GOP generally and conservativism specifically; many Never Trumpers want to make the Republican Party more liberal. Aligning ourselves with these people is not wise.
There are a bunch that want or need big government and centralization to “work” because it’s run by experts or something. They don’t care about being more judicious with interventionism. They aren’t worried about a creeping police state unless Trump babbles something really obvious and silly about it.
Or alternatively, they just don’t care about principles and it’s about their political parasitism.

Random, but good:
Eugene Volokh
Prominent Minnesota libertarian now backs Trump.
lendingclub.com/commentary ? not lendingclub.com/ricochet ?
And why aren’t they clickable?
Well, if measured by weight I’m probably equal to appx. 1-3/4 women. Does that count for anything?
Max Boot hates Barry Goldwater
It sounds like Max Boot is another “downstream progressive.”
He’s getting torn apart on twitter by very smart and high profile conservatives for that editorial.
I like the American accent, I really do. But it sounds as if its physically painful for you to say the word ‘calm’ – I wince every time I hear you say it. It’s like you are trying to get your mouth around a strange foreign word.
Well, my point was that Boot doesn’t seem to be among those “upstream progressives” who are concocting the false narratives, etc, while not actually believing them. So, based on the explanation on page 1 of these comments, he’s one of the “downstream progressives” who are accepting and believing the nonsense being promulgated by those such as the Dems on the Senate Judiciary Committee, etc.
Right. I missed what you were saying. It defiantly is that odd. That’s actually a very constructive paradigm.
I am just blown away by the screwy models of politics, government and economics that some of these.guys have in their heads. Or they really aren’t that principled. That’s what’s going on.
Boiler plate: I get why some people hate Trump, please just make some damn sense when you do it. All of this hysteria and making crap up. It’s nuts. “BUT RUSSIA!”
That is (or should be) a much bigger issue for Hillary, than for Trump.
Clearly Ricochet should approach Tom Woods and Bob Murphy about hosting there show Contra Krugman on the Ricochet network. That would handle the lack of Austrian economics on the platform.

I wouldn’t focus on one school of Austrians, here. Just have a smart guy interview everyone.
