Mutiny on a Ship of Bounty

Live from Dazzles Lounge on the MS Allure of the Seas, it’s a live Ricochet Podcast with Rob Long, James Lileks, and Jonah Goldberg (sitting in for a landlocked Peter Robinson). Our guests on this floating version of the show: Col. Allen West, National Review Editor Charles W. Cooke, and Commentary Editor-In-Chief John Podhoretz. Arrrr!

Music from this week’s episode:

Rock The Boat by The Hues Corporation

The opening sequence for the Ricochet Podcast was composed and produced by James Lileks.

All of the Ricochet podcasts from the NR Cruise were incredibly funny, yet informative (Neutral Observer and I were there).  Job well done!

“Casting me adrift, 2,500 miles from a port of call? You’re sending me to my doom, eh? Well you’re wrong, Christian. I’ll take this boat as she floats to India if I must. I’ll live to see you–all of ya–hanging from the highest yardarm in the British fleet.”

    Assorted Thoughts:

1.) reinstating a draft with a modern military seems unwise to me, but I begin to think there might be some value in reducing the scope of the standing army and relying far more on guard and reserve units that are not immediately at the disposal of the US Government.  Get as close back to the civic militia as we can.  Should do a post on that some time…

2.) As a University of Kentucky Graduate I’d like to take umbrage at the description of the Political Science Faculty, but for some of them… yeah, the umbrage would be dishonest.  Though some of them were also pretty good.

I love the crazy mix em up podcasts. Really nice change of pace. Listening to these has made feel a lot like the way I felt when Estelle Getty showed up on Empty Nest.

I said to him afterwards, “You sir, are a super hero.” Looked at me like I was nuts.

One of my bugaboos has been that if we are constantly sending reserve units overseas to support our active duty troops, then the regular armed forces are understaffed.

Behind the guys was a glass wall with a view of a large open space (the Boardwalk), with people shooting by on a zip line. Only on the Allure……

No idea if anyone will ever see this but, in contrasting this episode with Dogs of GLOP  (2016), I think this was vastly better because of James and Rob being present NOT because Kevin wasn’t. Just sayin.

It was an improvised experiment. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don’t.
