Ricochet is the best place on the internet to discuss the issues of the day, either through commenting on posts or writing your own for our active and dynamic community in a fully moderated environment. In addition, the Ricochet Audio Network offers over 50 original podcasts with new episodes released every day.
This week, our good pal and fellow podcaster Andrew Klavan sits in for the making-TV-great-again Rob Long (of course you should buy and read Andrew’s book The Great Good Thing: A Secular Jew Comes to Faith in Christ). First up, Trump’s cabinet is becoming sentient and we have plenty to say about that. And, a few words about the Left’s FREAKOUT every time Trump Tweets. Then, the great and crushingly urbane John O’Sullivan joins to discuss Europe’s reaction to Trumpism and what the future holds for the continent. His piece Europe Agonistes in this month’s National Review is a must read. And we wind up with a tribute to John Glenn, of the the greatest Americans who ever lived. Godspeed, sir.

Music from this week’s podcast: Rocket Man by Elton John

Outstanding art, EJ
Oh, yes, indeed. EJ has done it again.
The original mock up:
The Divided State of Ricochet
I find it difficult to express just how deeply I ADORE Ricochet podcasts.
I prefer this cover to the actual cover, and I’m not just saying that to flatter my hosts.
I’m behind in listening to podcasts, so it may be a week before I have time to listen to this one. But I wanted to say that the artwork on this is just grand. EJ hits another home run.
I like his tweets, its the best thing about him.
It gives the whole thing a patina of citizenry politics instead of a disconnected gentry class.
I always miss Rob when he’s not in the mix, but Andrew’s chemistry with the others is the best substitute yet. Thanks for a great podcast.
Should we, the Ricochetti, be insulted at Peter’s concern that “a communist killed Kennedy” needed explaining in order to assuage commenters? I imagine >90% of us knew what Andrew meant. After all, we are the single most well read cohort on the Internet. Perhaps Peter should have specified “for our younger listeners” or some such disclaimer.
Is that Rob or Jon G behind the mag?
It was the photoshop within the photoshop that made me comment. I noticed it even in the mini version in the right navbar.
That would be @roblong.
The always Trump guy? There was a radio host in Chicago who described himself as the man behind the man behind the man. That may be Rob’s role in the podcast. Seriously, though, this may the best episode I’ve ever heard on the flagship podcast. Well done guys!
Are there young men now like John Glenn? Men willing to take risks? Men of honor? Men willing to sacrifice? What a silly question.
Anyone besides me watch the Army Navy game today? Watch the clips of service people all over the world watching the game? See my post earlier this week?
If you doubt the existence of such young people you are hanging out in all the wrong places.
Rob is the executive producer. It’s his way of muscling in on the backend syndication rights which, as of now, will pay dividends in 2057.
I don’t. It was one of those Qs intended to get the other fellows going. ;)
I was referring to the answers. Specifically Peter Long’s “… but no.”
Not the question
I can’t tell you how glad I was to find this yesterday. As I was preparing for my nightly listen, I recoiled “Oh, crap! We are already into the Klavanless Weekend!”
But then…
Since we’re posting pictures, my boy is the one on the tank.
Who is the new sponsor- the luggage company? I wanted to check them out, but I don’t see it listed.

I, too, was a boy when John Glenn orbited the Earth. But having learned the whole story, I have to ask why he was elevated to hero status among the others? He was a nice guy, but no more a hero than the other Mercury astronauts, no more than any other astronaut. To call him a hero for that is ludicrous. He was a hero for his combat flights – a hero among many. The US has had a lot of combat pilots.
But to call him a modern-day knight? Puh-leez. He was a partisan hack in the Senate who traded on fame from one 5-hour flight. I will never forget Fred Thompson trying to run an investigation into Klinton’s campaign violations in 1997. John Glenn was the ranking member and he stonewalled and protected Klinton – to prevent any real investigation from taking place. After watching that, I cannot consider him a hero.
How many sons do you have? ;-)
All of them.
When you earn that title every other Marine becomes your brother and sister. That makes all of them my sons and my daughters.
When the death of a young, active duty Marine makes the news I openly cry, reflexively and unapologetically. It’s not a sobbing but the tears form and flow. I know that, but for the grace of God, that could be my son. I have had many of coworkers look at me like I am totally nuts. But it bothers them more than it bothers me.
When James Lileks started talking about how a man’s testosterone level decreases as he gets older, did anyone else think he was about to announce a new sponsor?
…Or reveal something intensely personal?
Now, anytime James says anything, I search his syntax to figure what segue it might be.
Not to speak ill of the dead, but I have to echo milkchaser a bit on John Glenn’s record in the Senate, especially on abortion, for it was loathsome and my Ohio relatives can testify to that.
