Too Much Monk-ey Business

Yep, it’s another super busy week (and day), but as tempted as we were to cover the breaking news as it happens, we decided to take a step back and invite our good friend Rod Dreher on to discuss his new book The Benedict OptionAlong with regular guest host Larry Kudlow, we get into the weeds on the  the future of Christianity, faith, and the authority of Scripture and the wisdom of the ancient church. But don’t worry, we also cover all the news, the votes, and yes, the passing of the King of Rock and Roll.

I like Larry Kudlow, but Mickey Kaus would be better.

Can’t wait to get Rob back. Kudlow is awful as usual.

I kind of agree with this. When I listen to Larry I never know whether he is saying what he really thinks, or just saying what he thinks the situation demands that he say based on the circumstances. Half the time I expect him to pause after a sentence and say “yeah… that’s it….” I got this impression when I first heard him say that a Trump-sponsored huge infrastructure spending bill will be the “good” kind of spending. You know, not the “bad” kind of huge government spending like Obama does. I got the impression that if Obama had proposed the exact bill he was thinking of, he would be all over how horrible it is.

Same with him waxing all pious after Rod Dreher spoke. I just found myself rolling my eyes.

Absolutely.  Kudlow seems to speak from an alternate universe where Trump is doing things Kudlow would like to be true.  I also remember him talking for 30 minutes right after the election about the great infrastructure bill… which did not exist.

And, “this is Trump at his best” ?  Working the phones like Reagan, huh?  Disgraceful spin.  That’s why he pulled the carrots and had Bannon tell the HFC “Guys, look. This is not a discussion. This is not a debate. You have no choice but to vote for this bill.”

Seems like they thought they did

The podcast has skirted the edge of christian proselytizing before (usually with Limbaugh) but this was too much.  This wasn’t just a discussion of religion, philosophy, and society- this was witnessing.

And then the totally inappropriate: Trump’s election was  “God-given victory,” huh?  Then God gave us this AHCA win, too, I suppose.

I hope I’m not the only member to find this both sanctimonious and insincere.

Let me state outright that I’m all for the witnessing, because I think it’s integral to the counter-revolution. It’s not necessarily integral to conservatism, but that conversation is one of the joys of Ricochet.

So Mrs Kudlow’s art, which I like very much, is a good place to start. Which others websites are good for the counter-revolution? New Criterion? Standpoint?
