Deal With It

Larry Kudlow is back! And he brings good news, among other things. The guys get his take on the dealings of this Kevin McCarthy fellow, along with predictions on forthcoming (eventually!) market corrections, and his optimistic assesment of American work, tradtions and faith.

Plus our merry trio get into the GOP primary contenders—and some other people whom we’re told are running. More importantly, they talk toy trains… Just tune in and roll with it.

Song of the week:

  • This week’s sound bite is Trump on Hannity’s town hall event last night on FNC

This was a really fun podcast. But I do not share Larry Kudlow’s optimism that G-d will return to American public life. What do other Ricochetti think?

I too like Larry but I am a pessimist. The debt and the lack of will to address it will be America’s downfall  – at some point, no amount of a realistic growth plan will cover it.

They need to hurry up and invent nuclear fusion.

This is the problem. Everybody that does anything except the ones in government is doing something deflationary. Better living through purchasing power. That is progress. That is how people understand progress. Very few things in this life are going to be a worse value in that sense.

Trade. Computers. Automation. It’s all deflationary.

So the Fed has to run with inflation anyway. That’s the problem.

So the debt grows because it’s mostly just discounting inflation. It’s not done for productivity enough.

We have been doing this since 1914 and it’s going to fall apart the hard way. We should have done something about it the second the Soviet union fell. We shouldn’t have traded with China. Import deflation from somebody else.

Inflation is about war, big government, and big finance. It’s going to go down the hard way.

Can you imagine taking out a loan for a house and the house goes down in value? That is what you are dealing with.

The whole 2% inflation target came out of the basement of the Eccles building. 800 PhD’s doing nothing. You can’t even measure inflation.

Who’s hide does 2% inflation come out of? People act like it’s nobody. Then the debt to GDP keeps going up. It’s insane.

‘They need to hurry up and invent nuclear fusion.’

Agreed, it will be fun to see how fast it will be declared unsafe, racist, anti gay and will harm women and children.

I liked Christie right up until he gave what was supposed to be a keynote speech and it was all about how his mother loves him.

    LOL well done.

Actually, all kinds of goals could be met if they would put up compact nuclear reactors everywhere. They won’t do it, because big utilities are a racket for the politicians and the executives at the utilities.

Weirdly, the guys admit Chris Christie’s moment was 2012 — yet he’s their “great white hope” to finally take it to Trump in 2024.

They’re like the monarchist remnants that survived in many European countries into the 20th century, completely irrelevant to the real political battles of their time.

None of the guys are watching Fox News, it appears, because there’s no realization that Trump’s ads are hammering DeSantis every day, totally unanswered by the DeSantis campaign.

This is probably at least part of the reason why DeSantis’ numbers have been going downhill.

It is hard for me to fathom that Rob thinks Warp Speed was a phenomenal success. Long term, the clot shot will cause more harm than good. It certainly enriched Big Pharma.

And the giddiness that Rob and Peter displayed for Chris Christie as a candidate just because he will “destroy” Donald trump is mind-boggling. Y’all should read @drbastiat post. Christie isn’t getting in with a willingness to sacrifice and make our lives better. I question if he is getting in to improve our country. I most certainly believe he is one who loves himself and will enjoy seeing himself on TV “destroying” Donald Trump. I wish Chris Christie would go away.

Jim Geraghty on the Friday 3 Martini Lunch podcast had a wonderful suggestion. Ala the “Manning Cast” on NFL football, Trump should sit out the debates and have a “Trump Cast” dissecting the debate. That would be entertaining.

The comments about Chris Christie (who can’t win) but would do a good job attacking Trump to the benefit of other candidates has merit.

Back in 1983, when Larry McDonald died on KAL007, his widow, Kathy, ran to fill his seat.  This is something that has happened before – Lindy Boggs for example.  Her opponent couldn’t attack her in the campaign because the optics of going after a grieving widow were really bad.

So they got a wackadoo gadfly into the race. This guy had a zero chance of getting elected, but he could say negative things about Kathy McDonald.  Her opponent stayed above the fray, while the other guy tore her down.

    She lost the election.

Maybe Chris Christie’s good deed for the century can be to deliver the Republican party from a Trump candidacy.

I was not a kid in Detroit in the 50’s, but my siblings were.   We had a big O-gauge Lionel train set.  In the first half of the 20th century, Detroit was filled with machinists and small shops that could make anything mechanical or electric.  There was a bunch of consolidation in the auto industry that led to a reduction in the small machine shops.   Google tells me the Detroit Model Railroad Club was started in 1935.

Larry, like Kevin McCarthy, trusts Biden to follow the spending guidelines in the debt bill.   Based on history, nobody should trust Biden with a budget, a law, or child.

Thank you so much for having the great Larry Kudlow on! His economic analysis was most enlightening, even for a dullard like me. His closing comments were deeply moving. Bless him!

Remember, as far as the media are concerned, the Republican candidate will either be Trump; or “worse than Trump”.

What with the development of Democratic ballot generating machines in big cities across the country, it may not be possible for any Republican candidate to win the Presidency.

On the other hand, while “losing” in 2020, Trump swept in 13 Republican Congressmen, from non-urban districts the Democratic machine can’t fix.

Small machine shops, sure.  People making their own non-standard train systems in their own basement?  Sorry, don’t believe it.
