This Ricochet member lives in Switzerland. We have system that requires the INDIVIDUAL to carry healthcare insurance for him/her and dependents. Each individual’s policy, selected for coverage of what he/she wants and can afford, has nothing to do with his/her employer. It is private insurance bought under competitive circumstances (about 20 companies across Switzerland). It has nothing to do with government, other than government’s oversight that the system is working according to the law and is stable.

My question: When will Americans demand such a system? The kabuki theater now going on is unnecessary and unmerited. Is there no one in Washington who can see the light?
