Hell, I just read it! Well, I will listen to the podcast as well. It was pure Jonah, and I can never get enough of that!

Oh, goodness, yes — all these years the one disadvantage with the G-File has been the labor one had to invest in reading it!

This was a great idea, Jonah. I hope you continue.

Sorry, it doesn’t work for me. I’d rather just read it.

Personally, no – I’ll stick with the text version. I think that works better then audio.

Side note – Any chance that you could make the G-File available on a webpage someplace? I prefer going there to email.

At first I found it annoying, then it kind of worked. https://youtu.be/c9oyVVTO9uo

But the sound quality was excellent!

Having finally listened to it, I have to agree with Jose. What I love most about Jonah’s podcasts is his spontaneous speech. His writing has the same feel. It just flows. This felt stilted and a bit uncomfortable, the flow wasn’t natural or there at all. I have read every G-File for several years now, and enjoy them all. I will continue to read them and listen to the Remnant, but these readings just don’t do it for me.

OK, I tried to get through this, but broke down at the silly and childish anti-Trump rant at the end. I’m going to ignore the substance, and focus on my potentially useful feedback to Mr. Goldberg, which is stylistic.

He is not a skilled at reading out loud.

He is a good speaker. I like his speeches and like his extemporaneous talking, from the Remnant to GLoP to Fox (years ago, when I used to watch Fox).

But his reading voice is a strange combination of flatness and sing-song.

I had the same problem with the audio version of Suicide of the West, which was substantively excellent.

I offer this as constructive criticism. It might be something that he could improve with practice. He needs to try to read as if he is just talking. A few people seem able to do this naturally, but most cannot.

I don’t recommend that Mr. Goldberg give up on this, but rather that he keep trying.

I’m with Jose. Don’t waste your time reading what works best as written text.

And PLEASE change that awful Remnant theme music!

Over a year ago I canceled my own damned subscription to the G-File.

This episode of The Remnant podcast did not convince me to re-subscribe.

This episode of The Remnant podcast convinced me to not listen to any future G-File readings .

My loyalty to The Remnant podcast is at this point a very thin thread.

Sorry, Jonah, reading the G-File doesn’t work that well. A written column allows for jokes, asides, and links that don’t translate too well to a spoken format. (Ask your couch, he’ll agree.) The other thing is that you sometimes get into some serious philosophical/political territory in the G-File and I think that the density of your serious prose won’t work very well spoken aloud. I like both your light hearted stuff and your serious discussions in a G-File—for the G-File to work read aloud, you’d have to rewrite it and then it would lose its distinctive quality.

I prefer the printed version, as well, because seeing it show up in my inbox on Friday afternoons has become the official beginning of my weekend. But if you want to continue with the broadcast version, how about enlisting the Fair Jessica to do the reading? There’s nothing like a wife to inject a bit of skeptical lilt into a dialogue. I’d bet that there’d be a whole lot of “He said that?” tone that would come through. Jonah could do the canine updates, however. It just seems fitting.
