Robert Doar said that progress was made against (especially) childhood poverty etc in thr 1990s, “thanks to Bill Clinton and others.”

Some of us remember that Clinton vetoed welfare reform several times, before finally signing it and then acting like it was his idea to start with.

Yeah. When Hillary said that she was going to put Bill in charge of the economy if she was elected, a few people jokingly asked if she was going to make Newt Speaker of the House again too.

“Trump has a different view…on immigration…the traditional Republican expectation that their base supported their views.” The base hasn’t supported the leadership view on immigration for a long time now and wasn’t shy about expressing their view. Republican leadership wouldn’t listen. Trump picked up on dissent in the ranks and found something to run on. It’s not immigration, but some have noted that the Tea Party was voters asking nicely, Trump was voters asking not as nicely.

Oh, and then Obama undid a lot of the welfare reforms, via unconstitutional executive orders.
