On this weekend’s Ruminant, Jonah asks why we have to make American politics even more difficult than they already are. Why is it that, in an election that reveals Americans’ contested preferences so obviously, that we have to continue to turn up the heat by piling on additional conspiracy theories about the rigging of the election? Maybe, as Jonah thinks, this simply reveals a series of “deeply unpatriotic commitments” among our political and commentariat classes. He makes his way to greener pastures by talking about our glorious canine companions, and by addressing some of the supposedly highfalutin concerns of those on the right looking to out-think the market in our populist moment.

If you meet a jerk, you’ve met a jerk.

When everyone you meet is a jerk, you’re the jerk.

I’m not even a Trump fan, and It’s gonna take a long time to forget TDS Jonah.

This is unfair. Jonah isn’t saying everyone is a jerk; he has a different conservative guest on The Remnant every week whom he obviously doesn’t think is a jerk. He’s just disturbed by people on the Right whom he thinks are abandoning the principles he thinks are right. They are free to think the same thing about him.

Yes but Jonah’s barometer for not being a jerk tends to be “thinks I’m more ideologically pure than those who I don’t like”

He helped set up a “news” outlet that while it started “Trump skeptic” became anti-Trump in the last few weeks to depress right wing voters. Tearing down the good (policy/judges) in search of the perfect (some dope who will be called Hitler even if he speaks nice).

Now they’re all high fiving when they need the “God and Guns”/MAGA types to deliver them the Senate and they seem to think it’s going to be easy.

I think Jonah’s brilliant. But I’ve listened to Remnant since episode 1 and he always has a petty ax to grind with someone either beneath him or who others seem to like more.

At the close of a terrible week I can’t think of anything less motivating than an invitation to listen to Jonah Goldberg discuss his principles.

I don’t understand. Who is “beneath” him? What a strange comment. I don’t think anyone is beneath me.

Seb Gorka has lived rent free in Jonah’s head by questioning his manhood, and all it does whenever Jonah wants to fire back is prove the point. He whines like a teenage girl about the Tomi Lahrens, Candice Owens, Diamond and Silk Charlie Kirk types. They’re learning their way and they’re going to have bad takes occasionally. Mr. I’ll Be in My Room With My Principles shouldn’t care if he’s confident in himself.

It was anti-Trump from the start. The Trump-skeptic nonsense was just there to attract a few rubes.

Yeah, but Seb has done the exact same thing to Jonah (and gets personal pretty easily too), and most of those people you mention have the same kind of “if you are not on my side I have no patience with you” reaction. I think this is more a Rorschach of whether you agree with Jonah’s takes or not. I’m finding a lot of people attack his motives rather than his takes.

Ok, I’m serious here despite what some may thing – If you’re looking for an alternative to cigars – why use that chewing gum thing instead of vaping? My understanding is vaping is pretty safe, does not have most of the bad pathogens, and to the extent that nicotine may have positive mental affects, might actually be a healthy thing to do.

The Georgia Senate runoff races will be very clarifying for a lot of people. If you just hate Trump, you should be wanting McConnell to hold on as Senate Majority Leader via wins in both races. If you’re like The Lincoln Project or The Bulwark, and you want Democrats to control all levers of power in Washington, you may not be outright cheering on Ossoff and Warnock between now and January. But you’ll be snarking at Perdue and Loeffler during that time, and/or saying it really doesn’t matter if they both win.

I’d suggest a Jonah Goldberg-Sebastian Gorka beer summit to discuss Nikki Haley, since distrust of her, for either being too supportive or Trump or not supportive enough of Trump, seems to be the one 2024 political issue that unites both the #NeverTrumpers and the hard-core Trump backers.
