Our own Dave Carter recently sat down with our own Susan Quinn to discuss her recent Ricochet post, It’s Time To Fight Back, which evidently is a reversal of sorts for Susan. Dave writes, “whereas she previously took more of a live-and-let-live approach to attacks from the left, Susan has decided that if we on the right don’t fight back, and do so aggressively and relentlessly, we risk losing the debate and the country. She explained her position with candor and conviction during our conversation. Her’s is a compelling case worth hearing.” We think you’ll agree.

@susanquinn, great interview! I thought it went well, and I enjoyed it.

(And thank you for the 15 milliseconds of fame. That was kind of you. ;) )

Thank you for the kind words, Hank. I can’t listen to it without feeling nervous all over again! Both you and Martel would have been just as articulate on the topic.

Well, either I or Martel would have used a lot more words. Neither of us knows when to shut up. That isn’t always a good thing. ;)

It was an honor and a joy to have Susan as my guest on the podcast.  I should add, (and really should have added during the podcast itself) that the opening and closing music come from a list of Susan’s favorite songs, which she was kind enough to forward to me at my nudging.  Nice, eclectic mix, yes?

I LOVED the Julie Andrews song at the end. IMHO, it was the perfect ending. Thanks, Dave.

    Susan, 8:00:

I think what happens a lot with the left is they project their weaknesses, their limitations, those things that they criticize in others.  They project them onto other people, and it’s a very convenient way of not owning up to what they are actually doing themselves.

I’ll suggest that there’s something more profound going on.   Far more than a convenient way of not owning up, Tactical Projection is a remarkably  powerful and effective weapon.

To present my point, let’s listen in on a conversation…

Dem 1: So what’s the secret Democratic weapon?

Dem 2: It’s somewhat counterintuitive. We select one of our own shortcomings and accuse the evil Republicans of that very thing.

    Dem 1: Huh? What?

Dem 2: Accuse the Republicans of our own shortcomings.

Dem 1: How on earth would that work?

Dem 2: First of all it’s a surprise; they simply don’t expect it. And their first reaction is to get all defensive. And then they look amongst themselves for potential offenses that they might need to explain.  And then they start apologizing.  Meanwhile our comrades at CNN are scouring the file footage for potential examples.

    Dem 1: Wowzers!

Dem 2: I mean, it’s not like the Republicans are going to do a Peewee Herman routine; “I know you are but what am I?”. That would look plain silly.

Dem 1: Brilliant. But it seems hypocritical.

    Dem 2: And so…

Dem 1: Accuse them of hypocrisy?

    Dem 2: Exactly!

Dem 1: Wow. This really is the gift that keeps on giving.

Gee, Don, I just don’t know about this scenario. The Dems are devious, but I’m not sure they’re all that creative. But who knows?

I agree, Don. However, I think it’s an unconscious projection. They see people on their side doing things and think it’s being done in retaliation. The blame always goes against us. This is what children do.

These are the people who continuously lament, “It’s not fair.” That also is a child’s view of the world and it’s dangerous in the adult world because it ends up having to find someone to blame and attack.

Don, I enjoyed your little scheming-Democrat scenario. I generally subscribe to a version of Occam’s razor that says that, when emergent behavior is a sufficient explanation, you don’t have to posit a conspiracy — or even deliberation.

I think a great many liberals really do think that conservatives are mean, dishonest, and stupid. I think a lot of conservatives assume that liberals are mean, dishonest, and evil.

This might simply be how we tend to think about people whom we understand to be at odds with us in important matters of values and ideology.

This was a fascinating conversation with one of our own. For months I’ve watched Susan’s words as she slowly evolved from a position of trying very hard to be conciliatory to where she is today. I’m glad she took her time as it makes her that much more credible. Thank you for the podcast Dave.

Well, more incomplete than backwards: I think a lot of [conservatives, liberals] really do think that a lot of [liberals, conservatives] are mean, dishonest, stupid, and evil.

At the extremes, we tend to hold each other in low regard.

But I do believe — and this is something I’ll bore everyone with at some length soon — that the extremes matter much less than the vast middle, which is generally conservative and apolitical. There, in my opinion, is where the cultural war can best be fought — and where it must be fought.

Then the ONLY way is to address the media as the chief obstacle to reaching the vast middle. This is the 800 lb. gorilla that most people on our side ignore or try desperately to minimize.

It only takes a handful of creative thought leaders on their side.   The herd mentality takes over after that.  They don’t mind being uncreative copies of each other; so long as they are all promoting the same anti-American themes and memes they start to “sound reasonable” after a day of hourly repetition on five channels.

It’s become socially  unacceptable to defend Trump among the MSM and among a few Republicans in the halls of Congress. Did anyone catch what Ryan said today? “We weren’t elected to defend Trump from investigations.” Would you ever catch a single Dem politician saying that about Hillary during her investigations of the past two years? They backed her in lockstep, even during the Benghazi debacle. Susan’s right: we have to learn to fight back.  I feel like we helplessly stand by while a huge injustice is being done to Trump on a daily basis in an effort to prevent him from governing effectively. It’s wrong, wrong,  wrong, wrong.
