Someone once said that, “Home is not where you live but where they understand you.” For our own Dave Carter, that place is deep in the bayous of Louisiana, where he finds people who work hard, play hard, and live life to the fullest. Whether they understand Dave is one matter, but there’s no mistaking the connection that both Dave and his wonderful bride have with these good people — a connection which we hear about in a story, told as only Dave can tell it.

I can’t play it.
I understand the problem is being worked on now. “Please stay on the line….. your call is very important to us….. One of our associates will be with you shortly…. Still there?….. Please enjoy our soft hits of the 80s and 90s music while the technical issue is being addressed….. Please continue to hold while our podcast host takes a hammer to the innards of the podcast machine thingamabob….. Want a beer?….. Don’t touch that dial because pizza is on the way too!….. Remember, our talented and eager staff are here, working on the problem…… You like anchovies?….. We have indoor plumbing too!….. We will be right back with you!…. I prefer pepperoni, personally…. Press 1 to get honked off in several languages!!…… #$!#$@#^!! “
Holy Moly! Do you ever have a gift! Thanks for sharing it with us. I feel uplifted and ready for the day’s tasks.
I have fixed the problem.
It was web site related only, so it didn’t affect iTunes, etc.
Wonderful!! Thank you sir!
Makes me want to go get some red beans and rice with sausage.
Straightforward and honest, a pleasing salve to counter the current inane ramblings. Well done and Thank You.
These podcasts are a godsend. I need to get my wife to listen to them. She is what I call and “old fashioned” conservative or “non-brainy” conservative. She was raised on a farm, and she does not need a whole lot of words or smart people to tell her what is right and what is wrong.
Thanks much Bryan and thanks to all for the kind words. There will be a variety of topics covered on these things and a variety of styles, but something about a trip home reorders the mind. It was therapeutic.
Dave,
The wife & I were driving around the DelMarVa (Eastern shore) this weekend visiting 9 quilting shops on a “quest”. (And spending what any normal male would think is a ridicule amount on fabric).
Thank goodness we could agree on listening your last few podcasts. She misses hearing your stories ever since the load of tales you shared at the wedding….
Ah! Hi there folks! Glad the podcasts helped out on the trip, and thanks much for the kind words. We surely enjoyed our time with you folks and very much appreciate you taking the time to attend the wedding.
Very good episode, Dave.
Mister Dave: Where can I get me some of that music (especially the first Jambalaya rendition)? Can you tell me the band(s) at the beginning of episode 4?
I have listened to this podcast episode several times, including once with my wife. You “really passed a good time with us”. Those stories were touching.
Great work. Thanks.
Thanks Stephenail! The version of Jambalaya that you heard was from Tab Benoit (pronounced Ben-wah) who, coincidentally, is from Houma. He also did the song “Gone Too Long,” which I used for the commercial spot. The “2nd Line” bit was none other than Wynton Marsalis himself, and the concluding version of Iko Iko was from New Orleans’ own Dr. John, who was in the right place at the right time.
Have a look in iTunes, or on you youtube for that matter, for Tab Benoit and you’ll find all kinds of solid blues and some great music from the Promised Land,…er,…um,…I mean Louisiana.
I’ve got his album “Best of the Bayou Blues,” which includes that song. I highly recommend the album. Thanks for the pronunciation on his name, Dave.
Thank you, Dave! Keep the podcasts coming!
