Ben Shapiro, the conservative writer and journalist, spoke at Berkeley last week. They spent $600,000 on security. For lil’ ol’ Ben? Yes. He spoke bravely and well. In this “Q&A,” he talks about the experience with Jay, and about higher education, the political temperature in America, health care, and some other things. This episode is a quick blast o’ Ben.

I subscribe to Ben’s podcast and others on Daily Wire, so I listen to him pretty much daily. He is, unquestionably, an extremely bright young man. Let me put some emphasis on young in that prior sentence. As a septuagenerian, I recognize much which he will, hopefully, outgrow. I find him to be far better in a structured situation like this one with an astute interviewer guiding the conversation. In these situations his brilliance really shines through. On his own show he tends to be a bit too self-indulgent. I have watched several of his speeches on YouTube. They, again, exceed in coherence and value his podcast.

This was a great interview, as are all of Jay’s interviews. I just wish it had been longer. I really enjoy Ben’s ideas and analysis without some of the snarky silliness he displays on his show. The first few times he imitates the speech patterns of Obama and Trump and others it is, perhaps, funny, but repeated on a regular basis it becomes childish and silly and totally unnecessary to make the point. Someone on his set really should tell him.
