Jerome A. Cohen is a law professor, a China scholar, and a friend to Chinese democrats and freedom-seekers. For many years, he has been at New York University, and before that he was at Harvard. He clerked on the Supreme Court for Warren and Frankfurter. With Jay, he talks about the Chinese Communist Party, the Christian church in China, Falun Gong, Tibet, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and many other issues.

How did he get bitten by the China bug? Well, it really started with Dean Rusk.

Just before this “Q&A” began, Cohen quipped, “As they say in the Ministry of Public Security – shoot.”

Great interview! I can personally attest to what Jerome said about Chinese students enjoying political freedom in America. The former students I have met through my wife have all been quite conservative and support Donald Trump. They say that without me even bringing up politics which was surprising after I learned to be careful around my wife with respect to Tibet, Taiwan, and the Falun Gong.

I also had the “pleasure” of living in the Beijing Hotel for 6 months back in 1980. Brought back some memories.
