For many years, David Horowitz was a shake-’em-up figure on the left. For many more years, he has been a shake-’em-up figure on the right. He is now embarked on a big publishing project: The Black Book of the American Left: The Collected Conservative Writings of David Horowitz.
With Jay, he is his characteristic blunt self, giving it to Obama, Hillary, and others we could name (and do). He also says that it is his great mission in life to get America to wake up, when it prefers to slumber – or when it prefers to think of the Left as a bunch of woolly-minded idealists who mean well.
If it’s a bracing taste of Horowitz you’re after, you’ll get it in this Q&A.

I love him
Thank God for truth-tellers like DH. May his tribe increase.
It would be good for us at Ricochet to hear far more often from truth-tellers who are able to expertly and with real 1st hand knowledge of the history/facts of the enemy teach it to us, or for some, just give us a reminder.
I think we would hear far less “let’s just agree to go along with the left on social issues”; Or, “the <fill in the blank> social issue has been ‘decided’, we lost; we need to move away from it or we will lose some upcoming election” nonsense at Ricochet. Every time I hear something like this, by inner voice remarks, “ah, another agent/wolf in our midst?”
Maybe people here would come to understand we will only lose when we stop pushing back, speaking out, and taking a stand. There is no common ground to be found with progressives, communists, whatever you want to call them; I think we lose to them too often because deep inside many of our side envy and idolize them because we want to be seen as the “good” version of them: the nice, kind, creative, charitable people, so we erroneously believe there is common ground to be found. And, many on the right seem to actually admire their persistence, “ideals”, constancy, “charity”. But it’s all a front, a marketing plan, a lie. <cont’d …>
Continuing from #3…
Listen to David. Look behind their veil of “Ideals”. It’s a shell game.
Maybe we on the right should take a page from Alinsky’s book, take over the ownership of the word Ideals, then replace it with Integrity.
I know many people (herd members, not the leadership) who are seriously “blue” BUT they froth at being called communists because many of them retain their childhood lessons about communists. So let’s create a new label for this group “neo-communists” — the purchased then soiled former JFK liberals. Hmmm? It will seriously “stir” them.
Mr. Horowitz sets my mind on fire. More fuel please.
Thank you for this Jay. Two of my favorite men together is a real gift for Christmas.
I loved the entire “he’s a communist!” segment where David goes on to explain that the first thing any enlightened being does when confronted with the true nature of an evil force is to get out, and then urgently warn others of the danger. Ha! I think we will all grow old and die before Red Prez reaches his enlightened stage.
Also the story about David at age 14 being schooled by an elder commie in the art and importance of lying as the primary means of advancing the marxist ball. Leftists, Islamists, Commies and the Devil all playing from the same book….
Superb, Jay. Horowitz has taught me so much over the years. His book, Radical Son is one that I recommend and give out to many people. It and Witness are necessary books for people to start with. If you don’t know these stories you will never be able to fully appreciate what we are up against in the last 100 years.
I loved that he shows that the blame for country’s polarization goes to the left and makes fun of the conservatives for scurrying around trying to address their own polarizing actions — you know, those polarizing actions that are pointed out by the leftist media every day.
Radical Son should be widely disseminated. Coming from one with his background, it carries a lot of weight. How enlightening to read that the Communist Party in New York (practically one and the same as the teachers’ union) frowned on marriage, having children, and owning property. They prefer renters with no children because they know that those things cause people’s views to get more conservative, and rightly so. Ha. “rightly.” See what I did there?
Nice.
Michael Medved talks about the “4 Ms” that make women conservative: 1) Marriage, 2) Motherhood, 3) Mortgage and 4) Mutual Funds. It’s so true.
