With the increased standard deduction, I wonder how many teachers would deduct school supplies. The root problem is with local school systems, not the federal government. From what I’ve seen, my local school boards have a lot of money to spend, but short change teachers, both with salaries and in classroom equipment. They spend heavily in non-academic staff and facilities.
A few years ago, a film crew secretly followed a head janitor at an urban public school to see his typical day. He would spend about two hours a day in the school, and the rest of the day he would wander around the town and shop and basically goof off.
Socialists measure the benefit of any government activity by counting the cost as the benefit. Thus, they imagine they improve public education by burning more money. If tests show students are learning less and less, they ban or dumb down the tests.
