Alex is the director of immigration studies at the Cato Institute’s Center for Global Liberty and Prosperity. He is also the coauthor, along with Benjamin Powell, of Wretched Refuse? The Political Economy of Immigration and Institutions, released in December of last year.

So immigration from highly educated people raises improves our culture. That’s all well and good but what about the vast hordes of incredibly poor and poorly educated that are approaching the American border.
The Nigerian guy with three degrees will be able to find a job pretty easy and it seems like poor Jews and South East Asians get rich fairly quickly even if they come here poor. But what righties are worried about isn’t the Nigerian Professor or the Venezuelan businessman. We are worried about Honduran caravans.
