Best Weird Al was his spoof of James Brown’s “Living In America” with “Living with a hernia”. He would dance and strut around like James Brown then let out a yelp and say “I feel bad”.

How fascinating to hear from Our Man in Cuba. I always challenge the reports which blame America for Cuban shortages of everything from tractors to tattoo needles. Don’t Commies make such things?

To get a feel for Cuba, compare it with the sick woman of Europe, Greece. The two countries are about the same size and both have about 11 million people. Cuba has more arable land. But at official exchange rates, the GDP of Greece ($196 billion) is 2.5 times the GDP of Cuba ($77 billion). Of course Apple probably produces more than both of them together.

“Phone” might just be the most awesomely terrible song I’ve ever heard.

In defence of Michael Lonsdale, he’s a good actor (The Day of the Jackal, The Remains of the Day) whom I imagine was directed to be a sneering, effete Bond baddie in Moonraker and who slid over the edge into apathy. Or perhaps he had too much $10k wine at lunch.

But Moonraker is pretty bad across the board. As are at least four of the Moore bonds.

Bond films do have some terrific actors now and again. From Russia With Love, Goldeneye and Skyfall are quite well-acted.

    Is film acting improving? (Discuss)

Agreed, which was problematic while walking my dog because she bolted after a squirrel and the streaming tears made it difficult to see.

I’m just loving this podcast and signed up for the $30 a year option which is actually closer to $50 a year for me since I’m joining from the Great White North. Jonah, I hope you have time to do your own podcast once you’receive book is done!

I’m not here to comment on posts.

I am only here because I like SOME of the podcasts (Jonah, Klavan, David Carter and Lileks), and I am still upset that you advertised all the rules applying equally only to decide “Oh, hey, nevermind– we need more folks on the left, so they get to break the rules all over the place. Rules only apply to the right.”

I’m still not sure I’ll keep paying two fifty a month, even for really good podcasts. A worker deserves his pay, though.

But I for goodness sake am not going to be actively promoting the site like I was back when the rules were evenly applied.

I agree, the “Baby Got Back” bit was gold. I had to youtube the song – it lasted 1:03 – at least with me. If you where looking for an obscure event to commemorate this past weekend – a far more noteworthy and remarkably unremarked anniversary, was the 80th year since the Hindenburg accident. That was one of the few events that truly changed the world – think of it – there was regularly scheduled air service to Europe in the 1930s… and after the Hindenburg accident the world waited nearly 20 years to get back to intercontinental flights. (but with airplanes instead)

I was really hoping the “ParrotHead” was an update of the song – you know the one – Rolly polly Parrotheads – eat them up! Yum!…

As Weird “Al” goes his best song is the holiday classic “Christmas at Ground Zero”

Dare you not to sing along…

The Baby got Back was especially funny to me because I was in junior high at the time, trying to ignore it then.

You should see Hindenburg: the Untold Story, one of those Smithsonian docs, streaming on Netflix. Fortunately there were a lot of survivors. Including a baby tossed out by his mother at about 50 feet!

What? Rules for what? When did this rule change happen, and what rules were changed?

They weren’t changed. They became selectively enforced. Rather the problem.

IIRC, the last straw was the guy who was banned for quoting an insult directed at him, on the same thread it was directed at him….

I want to make it very clear that my “resubscribing” is not to get burned yet again. It’s to pay for the podcasts.

The feedback may not be paid attention to, but I’ve got to make the effort.

Thanks I’ll look into that documentary.

Yes, in a aircraft it would be a miracle to have 2/3 of the people on board to survive the crash.

Jonah, are you trolling us with this one, in the middle of an apology for the Buck Rogers/Flash Gordon mix-up from the prior show? 🙂

Everybody knows that the little bidi-bidi-bidi robot from Buck Rogers was Twiki, not Ziggy.

Seriously, I know that these are usually slips of the tongue. Also, the younger folks should realize that, back in the day, we had the chance to see these shows once. No Netflix, no DVDs, no VCRs. You saw Buck Rogers when it aired, or maybe on a re-run later in the season, and then . . . you could wait until VCRs became widespread. And even then, it wasn’t like you’d be likely to find it at Blockbuster.

    Dear Lord! The Bombfell tie!

I caught about the last 20 minutes of John Podhoretz and his dad on C-Span 2 a couple days ago, and about five minutes in noticed I couldn’t take my eyes off of John. I started to feel uncomfortable, and had to turn the TV off.

I’ve been searching my soul since then, wondering why I would find a dapper, middle-aged man attractive.

It was the damned tie! Saints be praised!

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do a whole GLOP Podcast in the manner of the Baby Got Back thing, without laughing. That segment was perfect satire. I laughed out loud; I thought Terry Grosse’s husband was substituting for her on Nasty Peoples Radio

    Hilarious!!!!!!

Rob – Paramount is producing 7 pictures in 2017!? And one is a remake of Death Wish – how can Hollywood, you excepted, call itself a “creative” community?
