Interesting discussion about the current divide in China experts.  Good grief – Orville Schall (spelling?) is still with us.  Glad to hear that some of the experts are conceding that China is a Communist country and therefore must be treated differently.  I often listen to the BBC or even podcasts on Ricochet and elsewhere and hear people discussing China like its France or Kenya.  No, China is a Communist country and, generally, cannot be trusted as we would another free country.

Orville Schell; I read his last book after visiting China a few times. I think it was this book that described a wave in America’s attitude toward China; from high points like Nixon’s visit to outright fighting during Korea. I think we’re shifting to a much more pessimistic attitude. About time if you ask me.
