Jay and Mona consider Paul Ryan’s career and what it says about where we are. They talk Zuckerberg, Trump, Syria, Putin, Comey, Gingrich, and golf.

Unfortunately the sound quality on this podcast was poor and you could not hear Jay at all from time to time.

This was like overhearing one side of a telephone conversation. Why post when the technical quality is so poor? Does anybody listen to the podcast before it goes up?

Observation: Jay is often conspicuously reticent about things that cry out for opinions, particularly as he’s on a podcast where he’s expected to opine. For example, his contribution to the discussion of Mark Zuckerberg was, “I don’t want to kick a man when he’s down. Zuckerberg is a great businessman. That’s all I want to say.”

Uh huh. Thanks for the trenchant analysis, Jay. Really swell.

And re: John Boehner getting into the marijuana business, Jay cracked a joke and then said, “I’m sure he’s being well paid.”

End of story. Jay had nothing more to say.

And he does this a lot. I’m sure he thinks he’s exercising admirable WASP restraint; that he’s showing good form. But when you’re doing a podcast where you’re supposed to be weighing in in a conversation about politics, it is actually bad form.

And Mona, to her credit, tends to avoid this pitfall.

I can just see some joker replying to my comment with some variation of: “How do you know Jay wasn’t opining this week — we could barley hear him!! LOL!”

    Sigh…

Sure he did (re: the Syria tweets), which I’ve got no problem with. When Trump acts like a jackass, which is daily, he deserves to be called out for it.

But it’s Jay’s frequent adoption of a certain resigned, Mandarin pose that drives me crazy. It’s a mien that says, “I’m weary, Mona … weary of such pettiness … weary of such words and actions that are beneath my contempt, and my willingness to comment.”

    Give me a break.

I’m weary of it all too.

    Madaline Kahn “I’m Tired”

Not comparing Jay to Madeline Kahn’s character, this was just the first thing that popped into my head reading “I’m weary, Mona.”
