I’ve thought from day one that Lowry’s hiring of Dougherty as part of his overall misbegotten quest to mainstream nationalism was compromising National Review’s mission. And today this podcast was a platform for unchallenged and misleading Kremlin talking points about our foreign allies. Dougherty puts the shiniest possible writerly shine on what is essentially a Ron-Paulite worldview. He articulates it thoughtfully but at the core it’s all rot and shouldn’t have a place in the mainstream conservative movement. He belongs back at Pat Buchanan’s magazine not William F. Buckley’s.
MBD is often hit or miss. In the same segment he rightly assesses that the true aim of Russian interference was disinformation and dissent in the American political system (very successful, btw) but then he falls completely on his face when he downplays the threat Russia still poses to the West. His first point undermines his second.
Well, I’m going to start paying more attention to Dougherty’s work on NR, now…
Oh for crying out loud, the system did not work. There was no basis for assuming trump colluded with the Russians aside from a dossier that the HLC campaign paid to have created. It was ridiculous, we the the taxpayer had to pay for an army of highly paid Washington D.C. lawyers to go around messing around with people’s lives and having some people prosecuted for ‘process crimes’ that had nothing to do with Russia collusion. This investigation should not have occurred, and should have been dismissed as having no evidence for a basis from which to launch the investigation.
The fact that they didn’t indict Trump means that despite their best efforts and ability to go after Trump for anything, probably including unpaid parking tickets, they found nothing.
This was a total waste of our money as taxpayers! – a travesty of a mockery of a sham if you will.
Referring to Ukrainian patriots as “Banderite fascists” — that’s propaganda right out of the Brezhnev era. We’ve barely finished investigating Russian collusion in the White House; do we have to start looking at National Review? [;)]

This podcast reinforced why I no longer contribute money to NR. In their excitement discussing how well “the system worked”, they totally ignored the corruption that instigated Mueller’s investigation and the lives it has ruined. David French waxed poetic about the need for the investigation, but uttered not one justification. Rich Lowry was milk toast as usual. He must be terribly frightened his pundit show invites will dry up if he ever aggressively challenges the left. MBD’s position on Russia was confusing and embarrassing.

Hmmm, … Taras seems a bit … sensitive to the defaming of Ukranian patriots. Hmmm, … must remember that if we ever need to develop HUMINT in Ukraine via right-of-center (Rob Long‘s description) blog community. (All good.)
Without even getting to the part about how a Special Counsel may only be appointed to investigate a crime – a crime that must be identified in the Special Counsel’s charter. A Special Counsel may not be appointed to conduct counterintelligence investigations, a point Andy McCarthy has made for years.
Heck, it was a travesty of amockery of a sham of a mockery of a travesty of two mockeries of a sham.
I too ceased sending money to National Review, but in Charles C.W. Cooke’s partial (and mostly undeserved) defense, he did note that Trump’s anger was justified about being the subject of a sham investigation. But Charlie never explained the rather blatant contradiction between Trump’s justified anger and his breezy conclusion that “the system worked.” The system is a mucky, pungent, oozing swamp. Trump can’t drain it fast enough.
@libertydefender — In the same way, “the system worked“ in the Trayvon Martin case; that is, an obviously innocent person was acquitted. The injustice, as Alan Dershowitz pointed out at the time, was that for political reasons that obviously innocent person was put on trial in the first place.
I live in Portland. If federal agents drove a marked vehicle their lives would be in danger and certainly the vehicle would be destroyed. This is the liberal paradise – run by leftists members of the Democrat party – have created. Mob would attack the vehicle and agents or rioters, or both, would likely be killed. It is naive to ponder this question and not understand the situation.
