Was really enjoying the verve of Charlie’s “I hate them all” rant and ready for the improvised conclusion when Reihan stepped all over it. What a lack of timing. Does the guy get paid by the word?
I’m with Charlie. I hate them all too.
As usual, lots of fire about health care. Hey, guys, the green-eyeshade conservatives such as the Hiuse Freedom Caucus and Rand Paul, Ted Cruz, etc. are still whining that GWB was a terrible big spender because of Medicare Part D (where he actually should be revered as a conservative hero, just as he should have been revered and followed RE SS reform). Why would any American voter accept a Republican initiative on health care, be it Bernie’s nonsense or ObamaCare, given that the persistent position has been for 40 years that, notwithstanding loud and constant messages that the current US system of regulation-caused high costs and preferences for incumbents is killing them?
If just once a smart politician would have talked about the need for government involvement and assurance of health care away from a context of trying to kill it or cut it, we might actually have the trust needed for real reform. Paul Ryan is a great guy, and his proposals have real merit- but they are always about saving money, not helping people.
Instead, we destroy the economy with individual tax cuts to buy off opponents of much needed corporate tax reform. Pat Caddell is right about “stupid”.
I couldn’t quite make out the name of the other podcast when Charlie was talking about Pod Save America.
