My take from the Euro discussion is that the 3 most important countries in Europe are essentially leaderless at the same time! That has to be historic.
One Never Trump periodical down, NR next?
I was really disappointed by Charlie Cooke.
He compares Trump to Bush I and Obama, and finds him wanting — leaving out Clinton and JFK, who used terror methods to silence the women they used, instead of paying them off.
Does scaring women into staying silent constitute an illegal campaign contribution? Evidently not.
Incidentally, I’m old enough to remember when JFK was presented to the public as an ideal husband and father — the truth took half a century to trickle out — so I take talk of Obama’s marital fidelity with a grain of salt.
If I can stomach it, I may have more to say about the rest of the podcast.
One final thought: If having affairs 12 years before becoming President makes you a “bad man”, then what does that make Presidents who have affairs in the White House itself?
Forgot to mention, another thing Charlie gets wrong is when he says, about the alleged payoffs, that “public officials” shouldn’t behave that way. Of course, Trump was not a public official at the time, or any time prior to that.
None of the editors has understanding of how Christians view redemption. They should read about the prodigal son. God is most pleased when a sinner changes his ways. It should not be surprising that Christians are pleased, when a womanizing playboy forsakes his ways, makes restitution, and becomes a champion of religious liberty and pro-life causes.
I think Obama is the worst and most amoral the president we’ve ever had. He used the IRS, NSA, CIA, DOJ, DOS, FBI against his political opponents. We fought a revolution over that stuff. We did not fight a revolution, because the king was making it with a maiden on the side.
No doubt because of his superior knowledge of the Bible [;)], Charlie sneered at Evangelicals who compare Donald Trump to King Cyrus: who, though an unbeliever himself, is honored by Jews for ending the Babylonian captivity.
Obama is not amoral. He is a progressive, and therefore a utilitarian in ethics. Whatever contributes to progressive goals is good, whatever detracts from progressive goals is bad.
By his lights, lying about Obamacare was necessary to get it passed, and therefore lying was the only ethical course. To have told the truth about Obamacare (or Benghazi) would have been unethical.
In terms of damage done to the country, I don’t think any President can top LBJ. His bungling of the Vietnam War almost led us to throw in the towel in the Cold War; while the “Great Society” programs he set in motion are bankrupting us. He’s the closest thing to a “Manchurian candidate“.
Of course, in the long run, Harry Truman‘s failure to back the Nationalist Chinese, our allies in the war with Japan, against the Communists may be considered the greatest foreign policy disaster in American history.
