You mentioned the IRS mailing COVID stimulus check to dead people. My late mother got one of those checks. On the envelope, there was a box to check if the addressee was deceased, and directions to drop it in the mailbox. We did, and the letter reappeared a couple of days later. This time, my wife went to our local post office and explained to them what had happened. This time, they took and kept the letter.
But that wasn’t really the bad part. The letter was addressed to “Mrs. XXX YYY, deceased” . . .
