Another reason the tax bill needs to be passed quickly is that there is a very good chance of one less Republican Senator in December. This election is a good example of democracy being the worst form of government except for all the others.
I don’t buy Andrew’s argument (which I guess is Nicole Gelinas’s) about state and local taxes. He’s a super swell guy, though.

The net tax increase for removing the SALT deduction while doubling the standard deduction and lowering top rates mostly affects the wealthy and near wealthy citizens of high tax states. These limousine liberals mostly vote Democrat anyway.
Piegate reminds me of Livia in “I Claudius”. Robert Graves used the more salacious ancient sources and the real Livia most likely was not like the villain in the book. Of course Sarah Sanders does not poison people with pies, but many in the press want to portray the Trump Administration as being like the negative portrayals of the Roman Republic/Empire.

On second thought, Sarah Sanders should put sodium pentothal in the pie. This will ensure better press coverage.
That wasn’t Andrew Stuttaford, that was Basil Fawlty. Michael, you’re correct that Basil Fawlty has federalism upside down. If the Republicans do their job, they can educate the American voters that they are being screwed by the deductability of high income taxes in blue states. It will be hard work and the entire Democrat-media complex will be opposed, but it can be done. Ask Larry Kudlow.
