I’m sorry, but I am not convinced. I’ve heard you and Ben Shapiro and two National Review guys all selling the same conservative boilerplate about protectionism. I’m still not sold.

I don’t accept that tariffs are inherently bad. (No Mr. Cook, that was not proven by the repeal of the Corn Laws.) They may frequently be harmful, but the idea that they always are is demonstrably untrue. Loss and/or weakness in some industries have effects beyond just prices, production, profits, and exports.
.
I need to hear an argument specific to this case. What is the likely harm? Quantify it, then compare that to the benefits. I’m not seeing that. I just see people making (what seems to me like a faith-based) an argument that these tariffs are bad because free markets are good and therefore any barrier to free trade is bad.
Love Michael. It took me a few listens but I think I understand him now. He’s got the inflections, vocal texture, cadences, and word choice of a MAGA hat-wearing ”regular guy” trumpbot but he’s anything but. He’s a stealth intellectual. A guy with the deportment of Bill O’Reilley but the heart, brain and integrity of Bill Buckley.
And he’s funny, too.
Keep it up, sir!
There are numerous examples of tariffs doing damage and no examples — none — of tariffs being a net benefit to the economy they’re purporting to help.
A tariff is an emotional band-aid that solves nothing and does serious harm.
Doesn’t a diversity rider violate discrimination laws?
give me a break
that is just silly
