I believe it is more nefarious than your jesting title and imagery.

I do trust Andrew McCarthy without question. But even he has been shocked by the corruption in this DOJ/FBI.

@pseudodionysius tells me it’s more like 3 Days of the Condor than A Christmas Story.

What a disappointing interview from the brilliant Andrew McCarthy. He didn’t really address the biggest issue regarding MORE THAN FIVE MONTHS of missing text messages. This is the Federal Bureau of Investigation. “Investigation” means evidence gathering. The job of the FBI is to gather evidence and retain it so that it can be used in court if necessary. EVERYTHING that is written down is evidence, and must be retained. There are surely hundreds of FBI employees whose sole job it is to maintain electronic records. Not one of them noticed for MORE THAN FIVE MONTHS that text messages weren’t being retained? The idea that MORE THAN FIVE MONTHS of text messages could go missing is simply impossible to believe absent some sort of criminal deception. Has even Andy McCarthy become so jaded by such criminal nonsense as occurred in the case of Lois Lerner’s emails and hard drive that we accept unlawful, corrupt federal agencies as the new normal?

And speaking of corruption, YES Andy McCarthy, if former FBI director James Comey in fact doesn’t have a corrupt bone in his body, then he would have refused to comply meekly with President Obama’s thinly veiled instructions not to indict Hillary Clinton. I don’t get why such third world, banana republic-style “justice” – where the politically powerful are protected despite even Comey’s admission of criminal acts – is given a pass. James Comey should be publicly humiliated for laying out the case that he did on July 5, 2016, and then claiming that no reasonable prosecutor would bring charges.

    Michael,

I’m with you on not assuming anything about 2020, due to the way Trump has so often defied expectations. Even making bets on 2018 seems unsafe, to me.

I don’t agree with your analysis of McCarthy’s take. He says right up front that there are problems, that Comey has screwed up, etc. He just is pointing out that having a Samsung phone problem for everyone isn’t the same as “texts were disappeared.” He doesn’t jump to either conclusion. Neither do I.

If the #ReleaseTheMemo story is as bad as Fox News says it is, there’s no reason to rush. Let’s keep pushing for facts and then force bad actors to deal with those facts.

Do you also disagree with my take that it’s corrupt for an FBI director to go along with such a top-down corrupt scheme to protect a corrupt politician who clearly, absolutely, admittedly committed felonies in the handling of classified information? I just don’t see how an FBI director “without a corrupt bone in his body” could go along with such naked banana republic-style corruption.

I do indeed hope Andy McCarthy returns to your podcast often, but if you’re being honest, you have to admit that he didn’t address your question about MORE THAN FIVE MONTHS of missing text messages.

    Michael,

Enough of the “poor me” horsefeathers about no place at the Republican table for conservatives-like-you®. The Republican and Democratic Parties are coalitions. The proportions of the groups who are in the coalitions shifts. The Republican Party has at least three groups: country club, conservatives, and populists. In case you haven’t noticed, it has not been the conservatives in charge of the Republican Party since January 20, 1989 when GHW Bush took over. Country Club George managed to drive a large part of the coalition into the arms of Perot and Clinton in 1992. How much were you crying about taking your ball and going home for the last twenty-eight years while the country club faction was in charge?

So, now the populist wing has come back into the fold with a new leader. After thirty years in the wilderness, your hair is on fire over this? Quit whining and build the conservative wing of the party. Why would anyone want to be part of a group of people who get whiny when they don’t get their way? You are not exhibiting conservative qualities. Stand up and show us what it means to be a conservative. Use your (alleged) sense of humor to persuade. Be the contagion of conservative values. Make them look attractive.

Second, remember that Michigan has a (somewhat) Republican governor and a Republican legislature. How is the Massachusetts General Court doing? Oh, yeah. We have about half again the population of your commonwealth, and more of it is Republican than what you’ve got. People from Taxachusetts should not be insulting real states.
