It’s The “Podcast Of Love” For Donald Trump And DACA

Donald Trump wants a “Deal of Love” for the Dreamers, and is willing to negotiate—WAY to willing, in fact.

Meanwhile a judge says that Obama is the only president allowed to use his phone and his pen on immigration policy.

Ricochet’s Jon Gabriel talks the future of Breitbart, and of Sheriff Joe Arpaio;

The Weekly Standard’s Jonathan Last makes an embarrassing Steve Bannon confession.

And a woman who owes $60,000 in student loans asks—Why are you big meaners making me pay it back?”

Also, if you hear something that makes you want to yell at your iPhone–call the Confession Hotline and your comments/insights/snark might make it on Friday’s show: 617-903-TALK (8255) .

Regarding degrees in English and the relationship to writing books, exactly. One of the most prolifically published members of Ricochet has a degree in nautical engineering, if I remember correctly. And he makes money writing, unlike most of those with English degrees.

    1. A judge in CA ruled DACA can’t stop. A judge in TX ruled it couldn’t continue. We should hold off on a DACA ‘fix’ until SCOTUS tells us which judge is right. My money is on TX.
    2. Two things went wrong with Feinstein yesterday.
      • Trump didn’t know what ‘clean’ meant. He said a clean bill would include the wall. Also, he may not have heard her. He listens for tone of voice more than words. I think he needs a hearing aid & is too vain to wear one.
      • The plain meaning of what she was suggesting was hard for him to grasp because it was so audacious. Trump: ‘Let’s start negotiating.’ Feinstein: ‘How about if you give us everything we want and you get nothing?’
    3.  “Unless you’re caught at the border there’s a less than one percent chance you’ll get deported.” – Correct.
      • That isn’t just a reason the GOP should accept a good deal. It’s a reason not to accept a bad deal. DACA is really about ‘dreamers’ having more opportunities & not about whether they can stay. The urgency is a liberal invention.
      • This is also why when politicians (on both sides) focus on “border security” I want to bang my head against a wall. The problem has always been one of interior enforcement. Anything that doesn’t change our approach to enforcement in a fundamental way is just window dressing.
    4. re: Jon Gabriel – How come Ricochet’s being run by a libertarian? That is like Pope Francis editing the Daily Kos. ‘We agree with the See of Rome about spending & size of government… That’s good enough.’
    5. Did Trent Franks only ask about surrogacy? I’ve heard rumors he wanted to conceive the ‘natural way.’
    6. House of Lies?! No. GoT S01-05 & S01 of Cards are 100x better.
    7. Today going to college is as more a signifier of class status than it’s about earning potential.
    8. A degree doesn’t guarantee a good job, but it grants access to earning opportunities you can’t have without it. This lady’s masters could increase her income, but she’s wasting it because she wants a job that fulfills her.
    9. ‘It’s harder now for establishment Republicans to act on populist concerns.’ – They should’ve done it before. It’s not going to get any easier. What they don’t seem to comprehend is that they no longer have a choice.
    10. ‘These positions are going to be radioactive for a generation.’ – What a wuss this guy is. If you can’t stand the heat… go read storybooks to preschoolers.
    11. ‘No one will be left but McConnell & the WSJ editorial page.’ – This is magical thinking. Bannon & Moore are losers. Strange lost to a loser. What kind of pretzel logic looks at that & declares McConnell a winner? If the establishment won’t accommodate the populists, then either the establishment will be ousted or it will maintain control of a party with no voters.

That’s totally right. This is allowed because debt forgiveness does seem inevitable to many. I have students who fail college classes but will not drop because “it will stop student aid if I don’t have a full time schedule.”

    Um… huh?

I will say for people with English degrees… I could not have gotten my first job after college in sales without having a degree. It did not matter which degree, so at least I read good stories.

I’m not a libertarian, but a conservatarian. Which basically means that Republicans think I’m Ayn Rand, and Libertarians think I’m Jeff Sessions.

I’m out of step with many of the Ricochetti because I believe in economic populism. Even so, I’m totally against debt forgiveness & the free tuition nonsense.

Whether you get the sort of job you hoped for or not, a degree (after subtracting the costs) still gives you much higher lifetime earning potential than someone without one. That’s more true for some fields of study than others, but it’s a significant advantage no matter what you studied.

Making everyone pay for something that enables you to earn more money – including those without a degree who’ll earn less because of it – is unjust even based on liberal principles of economic justice. People with student debt just need to take jobs they don’t find appealing – but which will eventually make them more prosperous than the average American.

I try not to get riled up about politics but… these whiny, entitled, ungrateful adult children, and the morally bankrupt Democrats betraying their own values to bribe them for votes, they push my buttons.

There’s a real Marie Antoinette character to all this.

Google suggests Charles C.W. Cooke is a conservatarian. Is that correct?

If so, what issues does he deviate on? He seems orthodox conservative to me. If not, what are the differences?

I did hear your episode with Randy Barnett, whom I regard as no less a threat to democracy than RBG. That’s something.

You’re not getting an argument from me. I’m simply stating how it is. Also, I worked three jobs and paid for my BA as I went along. I did not take out a single student loan for me, though I did get some help from family members who wanted me to graduate.
