Michael I haven’t heard anyone who supports the President say Rob Porter’s actions were OK. I have heard plenty of people who don’t care for Donald Trump say those of us who support him are now in favor of wife beating, I have also heard other supporters of the president say we wish Porter would not have been hired and are glad Porter was encouraged (frog-marched more likely) to resign.

Michael, when you had Bethany on concerning the Porter issue. I thought you gave her a pass on the pearl clutching NT flavoured piece she wrote. There were huge holes in her viewpoint. However, I felt you gave Roger similar deference.

    I call fair.

Listen to what Roger Kimball had to say about the Porter case in the podcast. Many people would find it disturbing.

OK, I listened. And it was what I’d call stupid. But saying “We don’t know if Porter did this” when we are pretty sure he did, is not the same as saying wife beating is OK. But the podcast was, once again, a fun listen. Thanks.

I thought your MAGA person was doing really well until he got to the Porter thing. Then I got a little queasy. Frankly it looks bad for Kelly that Porter was in that position for a year while his security clearance was held up. Questions should have been asked. Not necessarily by Kelly who has bigger fish to fry, but by whoever keeps track of security clearances. That person needs to be a good soldier and step up, take the blame and fall on his/her sword. That’s what democrats would do. As for Trump’s tweets on this matter, they were as they so often are, just plain stupid. Defending Trump when he is just plain stupid is what makes me feel queasy.

What? When was the last time a Democrat took responsibility for anything? To this day no one has received any punishment* for Fast and Furious, the IRS scandal, the VA scandal, or Benghazi, and I’m probably forgetting a few more. Porter needs to go, yes, but I’ve seen pasta strainers that hold more water than this statement.

You paint with a very broad brush Michael, when you imply that all or many Trump supporters are willing to overlook domestic violence, and furthermore that a single employee who commits domestic violence is somehow a reflection on Donald Trump or his administration. That’s rather bigoted of you. I’ve asked you before to name names when you make such accusations, and this time you did only after a commenter called you out.

I don’t think Roger Kimball’s refusal to recite the trope “no one is entitled to the presumption of innocence in the court of public opinion” is adequate justification for your broadside slander of Trump supporters.

Just as Democrat Bill Clinton did when he was credibly accused by Paula Jones of a sexual assault, or credibly accused by Kathleen Willey of a sexual assault, or credibly accused by Juanita Broaddrick of forcible rape, or proven by Kenneth Starr of committing perjury, or …

There have been many deals made by democrats where they put up a fall guy, Susan McDougal for one. I’m not saying they always do it. I’m not even saying it is an honorable thing to do. I am also not defending democrats. I’m just saying they need to protect General Kelly because God knows we desperately need him.

“Queasy” is exactly the right word. We have the photos, we have the two ex-wives and we have reports that even TRUMP thinks Porter was a dirtbag. So why defend? Because there’s a certain element of Trumpiness that lives on “Ramming Speed!” No self-reflection, no willingness to concede facts, always at war and on attack. The biggest casualty: their own credibility.

It doesn’t need to be a punishment. It just has to work. It just has to take at least some of the blame away from General Kelly. Or heck, Trump will say or do something even worse and we will move on to the next “end of the Republic” shitstorm. But the media and the dems would love to damage or get rid of Kelly and that really would be a bad thing.

My goodness, make your way to the fainting couch….

The willingness of many Trump supporters to abandon principles like “personal responsibility” or “character counts” is beyond debate. The question is whether that’s a legit political decision? Or will it come back to bite the Right the way defending Clinton has bitten the Left? (Setting aside the other issue, that whole “right and wrong” thing we’ve apparently abandoned).

So toughen up, little camper, and get used to the “bigotry” of others acknowledging the fact that a significant number of Trump supporters have decided to put politics over character.

This is what makes me NeverTrump even in the face of the good things accomplished by the Trump Administration. Whenever I look at those good things and want to support the President, he does something like this that makes me feel sick. I know I am supposed to shrug off or even defend stuff like this and people like Victor Davis Hanson will tell me that we have had many presidents who were not good people. That its about what he does and not what he says. Yes Hillary is worse and I’m grateful that she is not president. Maybe I could be won over if he would JUST SHUT UP. But then he wouldn’t be Trump.

Many? Name two. Use examples and show your work.

Just about every person Michael invites on for MAGA Monday for starters. And you yourself when you disingenuously ignore Trump’s reaction to and handling of this incident when you state “that a single employee who commits domestic violence is somehow a reflection on Donald Trump or his administration. “

What was Trump’s reaction to and handling of this incident, Julia? I don’t recall that being discussed on the podcast. Use examples and show your work, including an explanation of how that affects policies promoted by or implemented by the Trump administration.
