How Dumb Does That Iran Deal Look Now?

The “Moderate” Iranian regime guns down its own people in the streets, and thanks to Barack Obama, they’re using bullets WE paid for!

Reuel Marc Gerecht from the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies has analysis of the Iran Riots

Why do conservatives continue to defend cowardly cops killing unarmed citizens?

And the best comedy of 2018? Watching liberal “millionaires and billionaires bitch about paying the property taxes they voted to raise.

Well, I made it to 6:17 before turning you off, Michael. Comment or don’t, but quit nattering on about how conservative you are and how stupid or brainwashed other conservatives have become.

First, there was an issue where the last two stories/segments (police and taxes) were playing over each other.

Second, concentrate and focus on what you want and who you want to be. Do not name names of those you do not want to be. They do not matter. You are creating your vision and your way. March forward. Quit looking behind you.

Michael, you are fine… keep doing what you do. Trump is trump and the left have lost it…. so I think 2017 wasn’t as bad as you think. Please sign up for some Scott Adams periscopes…. he has helped me see a different perspective on Trump, which helps see through the “Everything Trump does is stupid” mantra the mainstream media would have you believe. Thanks and all the best for 2018 from a new subscriber.

When Mike is “on” the podcast is good. When he’s “on Trump” he can’t seem to create a decent podcast. That doesn’t mean he should ignore the president, or become a Rah-Rah cheerleader. Ara said it best. Michael needs to move forward with his view, and let us judge for ourselves what we think about the President and other conservative pundits.

Thanks for the conversation w/ Mr. Gerecht. One of the things that I think you should steal er borrow from The Federalist Hour is taking a few moments to get the background on the interviewee. Realize you have less time than an hour with one person. Cheers.

Mr. Gerecht was excellent. So good to hear a clear analysis of the Iran situation. And I am in much the same position as Michael. Can’t stand Trump but I’m grateful for some of the things his Administration has accomplished. I give all credit to Congress and some in Trump’s Administration and none (beyond putting them in place and listening to them some of the time) to Trump. The Administration would be much better without Trump.

I forgot to ask Santa so maybe I could ask you: please could I hear conservative podcasters like yourself when discussing news of the day to please stick to the issues and leave out the caveat of how you don’t like Trump? That trope has been beaten to death.

    Fixing now.

    1. On iTunes, I still get overlapping at 48m15s.
    2. You said passage with 51 votes is over until after midterms. Are you sure? My understanding is if you pass a 2018 budget instead of CRs, that restarts the clock on reconciliation.
    3. I don’t see why King’s deportation talk is different from Trump talking about the wall. It’s a counterargument to Democrats who say it’s intolerable to just end DACA. That wouldn’t deport anybody, though. It just makes people eligible for deportation if they violate the law. Many can tolerate that. Democrats need to know if they play chicken, we won’t blink first.
    4. You didn’t mention the biggest impediments to a deal:
      1. Do we merely continue to allow them to renew their protected status? Do we give them all citizenship? The answer should be in between, but Democrats insist on the latter.
      2. In the media, you read about the 800K currently protected by DACA, but the left isn’t thinking in those terms. They want enrollment to continue indefinitely. That’s another 80-100K annually.
      3. What do we do about families? Democrats insist parents get citizenship, but they aren’t ‘dreamers.’ They’re ‘cheaters.’ I don’t see how Republicans can possibly accept this & argue for ending chain migration for legal immigrants.
    5. I want a common-sense reform no one’s talking about. Crossing the border illegally is a crime. Overstaying a visa isn’t. That’s ridiculous. It’s also the original justification for the PC term ‘undocumented workers‘ replacing ‘illegal immigrants.’ The correct legal term is ‘illegal aliens‘ & 40% of them overstayed visas.
    6. I wish you’d included some reporting on the specifics of wealthy blue state residents & SALT deductions. I’ve heard nothing about it where I live.
    7. What kind of houses cost their owners $20K in property taxes?! Homeowner: “I’d like to continue living in my home, please.” State Tax Collector: “No problem. Give me a brand new Corolla and you’re all squared away… until next year.”
    8. You’ve said, ‘I want to be the grown-up party.’ We need to confront truths we don’t like. Here’s a difficult truth: claiming a position should be rejected because it’s not conservative is an empty trope. You did it today, but it’s something I’ve been hearing all too frequently from many people about many different disagreements. You had a guest who used it against you recently.
      1. It’s lazy, like saying you know ‘WWJD’ (or Reagan would do) about something. If it were clear to everyone, there’d be no dispute.
      2. There aren’t that many Movement Conservatives left, certainly not enough to win national elections. It’s not even clear the original Cold War era worldview carries over to a post 9/11 world.
      3. The right is too often preaching to the choir. This rhetoric turns off people who might be receptive to one’s point if framed differently.

The Administration would be much better without Trump.

    • It would, but then donuts would be better if they had the same calorie content as rice cakes.
    • If there’s a way to replace Trump that doesn’t involve giving phony evidence to Congress and doesn’t make half the country feel that we no longer accept the legitimacy of free and fair elections, then I’m all for it.
    • My fantasy scenario goes like this:
      • Mueller discovers that there was no collusion but Jared and Don Jr lied to the FBI and perjured themselves because they’re world class doofuses. There’s no one higher up for them to flip on, so they’ll go to jail.
      • Despite what people say about him, Trump isn’t entirely lacking in virtue. He’s always been extremely loyal and protective where blood relations are concerned. For the sake of his children and grandchildren, he pardons Tweedle Dee & Tweedle Dum even though this requires that he resign voluntarily.
      • Pence governs with quiet competence and moral rectitude. People who don’t like the religious right are so relieved after Trump’s twitter circus that they come to begrudgingly respect him.
      • The Democrats try to win 2020 with Obama’s voters, ‘the coalition of the ascendant.’ <barf> Pence/Haley win a 7 point victory – and because Trump served 24 & 1/2 months, Pence can choose if he wants to run again in 2024 or hand the reigns over to Nikki.
    • Meanwhile, I still enjoy a big slice of chocolate cake (perhaps more than I ought) even though I know too much of it isn’t healthy.

Whaaaaat?! I thought Michael was a MAGA hat wearing rider on the Trump train. I can’t remember him mentioning anything to suggest he’s not a wholehearted supporter. Perhaps you’re just reading too much into a few ambiguous comments.

Maybe he can clarify where he stands on tomorrows show.

    Here’s the Vox article:

    https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2017/12/28/16818680/state-local-tax-deduction-income-payroll-trump-tax-reform-republican

In a world where the national media played fair, the Democrats in Congress would have to take a position on this at least as much as the Republicans have been compelled to comment on a purely hypothetical firing of Mueller.

BTW, the Vox article doesn’t call SALT deductions for the wealthy a ‘tax break.’ They call it a ‘federal subsidy’ to enable states to raise taxes. Horse puckey! That is the same semantic jujitsu as saying that a fine on those who don’t purchase something is a tax on inaction.

@contrarian My fantasy is that Trump gets sick of it all or just gets sick and resigns. I don’t wish ill on anyone but let’s face it, Trump is an overweight 71 year old who loves fast food.

Meh. If everyone were raving about how wonderful he’s been as president, and he got bored & tired, he might quit and ‘go out on top.’ He’s mule-headed and self-involved. He won’t quit unless he has no choice precisely because people he hates (& who hate him) want him to quit and he won’t give them the satisfaction.
