Melania Trump doesn’t deserve our sympathy because “she knew exactly what she was getting into“? I doubt it. More likely, she knew approximately what she was getting into.
According to James B. Stewart, when Hillary was in Arkansas she complained to friends of Bill’s behavior with other women: not that he was sleeping around — they had an “open” relationship and she slept around, too, sometimes — but rather that he didn’t take care not to humiliate her publicly.
So it’s likely Melania got married knowing Donald is not a one-woman man. Nonetheless, the knowledge that he slept with not just supermodels and Oscar-winning actresses, but a “porn star”, that is, a woman who had sexual intercourse with dozens, if not hundreds, of men for money, must be hurtful in a special way, not to mention hazardous to health. Which is probably the real reason Donald tried to cover it up: he was ashamed of himself, and didn’t want her to know about it.
You played Pizza Day, Michael! THANK YOU!!
Here’s Jeff Jacoby at 51:04:
“Either you have values or you don’t have values; and if you say, I’m gonna throw away my values because the other side doesn’t share them as well, you never really had those values [in] the first place.”
Holy Logical Fallacy, Batman.
Or, to be precise, this is the fallacy known as the “excluded middle“, or the “false dichotomy”. Here are a few examples of the same reasoning:
FDR allied with Stalin; therefore FDR never really believed in democracy or human rights.
Lincoln refused to fire the oft-drunken Gen. Grant; therefore, Lincoln was never really a believer in temperance.
Ronald Reagan raised tariffs to protect Harley Davidson; therefore, Ronald Reagan never really believed in free trade.
Reagan worked with the Chinese Communists against the Soviets; therefore Reagan was never really an anti-communist.
N.B.: What with Mike and Jeff smugly and sanctimoniously taking turns to wrap themselves in the flag of Ronald Reagan, I almost let the last 14 minutes go by as unlistenable; but fortunately they changed the subject!
P.S.: The critique of Bill Clinton for sexual misconduct was actually a smoke screen, part of the Clinton defense effort to muddy the waters. Clinton wasn’t in trouble because he slept around, he was in trouble because he chose to commit perjury (he lied under oath in court) and obstruction of justice in a sexual harassment case. But Clinton defenders did what you do if you have a guilty client: change the subject.
The porn industry is strict about testing performers for STDs, and Trump has been alley catting for a long time, and according to Daniels, Trump does not like to use a condom. So this encounter was likely more dangerous to Daniels than to Trump.
