As economically devastating as this decade’s hurricanes and wildfires have been, the US is looking at even worse scenarios in the years ahead. Alice Hill, a Hoover Institution research fellow focusing on building resilience to catastrophic events, discusses how the nation can better plan for the inevitable, plus the latest on the Trump Administration, Democrats, and the climate-change debate.

I normally enjoy this podcast, but this guest is a twit. The repetition of all of the catastrophic claims, none of which seem to have any actual events to back them up is a total waste of time. These people live in a bubble in which they talk to no one but each other and do not have any intervening arguments to derail the psychotic visions they imagine. If they spoke in realistic terms I might bother to listen, but when they speak of the end of civilization and massive storms which haven’t occurred they lose all credibility. I have better things to do with my time than to listen to nonsense and fever dreams.

I think it is fine to interview people such as Hill, even though she asserts a lot of stuff without solid support.  But to be honest, Mr. Whalen now needs to do shows with Will Happer, a very distinguished and honorable scientist who was really subject to some unfair comments by Hill, and with Roger Pielke Jr., a non-conservative Hillary supporter who wrote the definitive paper showing that the increased damage costs due to weather events are caused by unwise building decisions in the wrong places.

Adaptation to sea rise, etc.- whatever the cause-  is the right answer.  But let’s be more honest.  If Mr. Whalen is unwilling to present the other side in this kind of debate (it sounds to me as though Hill does not belong at Hoover, perhaps she has been getting free Kool Aid from George Shultz), he should not be doing shows at Ricochet.
