You don’t know what a stoat is?
OH LIKE YOU DID BEFORE YOU GOOGLED IT JUST NOW
Of course I did. What can I say? I’ve known a lot of weasels in my lifetime. (Also, I don’t Google. DDG)
Furthermore, I agree with you on soccer (Fall down and flop around ball), Jon Leibowitz, Stephen Colbert, and Star Wars. That’s just cruel and unusual punishment that Ryan would want to wish any of that on you.
Also, there is a time travel novel or series. I cannot remember the name of the author or book, but one of the characters was named Sebastian (Bass) Foster/Forrester. Someone left a time machine in an old building in Scotland, and a stoat chasing some rodents burrowed his way in. As he chased the rodents over the controls of the machine, he activated it, projecting the main characters back into the late Middle Ages. I read that book (whatever it was) about forty years ago, so looked up what a stoat was then.
It’s not that obscure. I’ve known about stoats for years. (There’s a blogger who goes by Stoaty Weasel.)
Re: Dresden needs to end
Jim Butcher has had the outline for the entire series since before he completed Storm Front. You can argue it’s too long, though I’m still firmly on board.
Totally not a shot at the actual merits of any particular series! I just think as a rule fantasy series can go too long sometimes, a bit like some 12-season television show that’s wonderful but somewhat overstays its welcome.
On the topic of throwing in the towel on a book, I have a 50-page rule. If by page 50 I just don’t care what happens to the people (or space lizards or whatever), I just drop it. I have never finished a book that I had to push myself to read and felt it was worth it. There are plenty of good things to read, I’m not going to waste my time on something that just isn’t interesting.
