This episode is truly a first: the first time we’ve ever read a historical action comedy horror parody of a 19th century classic. Oh, and it’s also our first-ever ladies-only show! Stephanie and Megan welcome newcomer Kate to the Legendarium and together the three of them dissect (eww) this fun, hilarious, sometimes gory, sometimes touching book.

This book is too light-weight to deserve a whole program.

It would fall under what is sometimes called “gonzo alternate history”.  Which is to say, where alternate history tries to reason out the implications of a change, like Lee winning the battle of Gettysburg, gonzo alternate history merely slaps together historical characters and events for fun.

N.B.:   The movie adaptation improves on the book by giving Wickham good reasons for what he does.
