Ricochet is the best place on the internet to discuss the issues of the day, either through commenting on posts or writing your own for our active and dynamic community in a fully moderated environment. In addition, the Ricochet Audio Network offers over 50 original podcasts with new episodes released every day.
It may be the winter session in the faculty lounge, but things are heating up as professors Richard Epstein and John Yoo clash on a number of today’s topics. On the docket: Was Mitt Romney justified in his impeachment vote? Is President Trump wrong to override the Justice Department on the Roger Stone case? Can states punish members of the Electoral College for defying the will of the voters? Can state and local governments resist the feds’ efforts to curb illegal immigration? And do the sign-stealing Houston Astros have to pay up for ruining a pitcher’s career? All that plus the gang weighs in on Korean cinema, back tattoos, and one of the professors (shouldn’t it be obvious?) getting shushed on a film set.

Always learn so much in the faculty lounge. Thanks for the podcast.
Ridiculous take on the Astros equating it to the blacksocks. It’s nothing like that. The Astros took sign stealing new level – maybe. But when Carlos Beltran came to the Astros and said their sign stealing methods are behind the times that implies other teams do it. And, by other teams you should read: all of them. Sign stealing, tipping, plunking, ball doctoring are all part of baseball.

Reading Polybius’ Roman Constitution, it struck me that Republican Rome, not democratic Athens, was the model for the American Constitution.
That’s why I look askance at the idea that having both a House and Senate was nothing more than a compromise. They look suspiciously like Rome’s Assemblies of the People and Senate.
Great discussion, but the download was five hours long, with what sounded like several drafts.
What does that mean?
My Podcast player (Podcast Addict) informs me that if I play this downloaded podcast in full, I will hear 5+ hours of audio. I’m only ten minutes in, still reeling from hearing John Yoo say “they believed that Trump had did it,” so I don’t know if there is in fact five hours of audio remaining.
Other podcasts on occasion have in fact had repeated recording, which seem to be simple editing errors.
We have gotten some other reports of this behavior, and I’d like to figure out what’s going on. Can I ask you if you are subscribed to the Hoover feed or Ricochet’s Super Feed for this show
I subscribe to the Ricochet Lawtalk feed (not the superfeed, but the same feed I’ve been getting since they first started on Ricochet) in itunes, and then download is showing up as a 5 hour, 17 minute and 11 second play time in itunes.
Here are the properties on the file:
That’s helpful, thanks. We are discussing this with Hoover (it’s their show now and they host it) to determine what’s going on.
Not only that, Richard Epstein said, “Me and Hitchcock were together in many movies.”
After that and “had did” I needed to lie down with a cold compress till the room stopped spinning.
More grammar like that and I’ll have to stop listening. Troy, keep these men in line!
Always blame Hoover lol.
are you using a windows machine?
which version?
I downloaded this episode of Law Talk from the Ricochet Member Superfeed, to my Android smartphone.
Please explain to me why you have any expectation of privacy at all to signs transmitted in a crowded stadium?
For the time being, please use this link to download a clean, better sounding version of the show.
The last two The Classicist episodes have had the same problem. They’re about twenty minutes long but show a run time of fifty plus minutes. Also, this episode as well as those other two don’t hold position information. If I pause the episode it restarts at a different point and I can’t fast forward back to where I was.
We are now aware of the issue and know what is causing it. Rest assured, it won’t happen again.
Thanks.
Any hints? Just for pure curiosity sake?
Or are we getting into trade secrets?
I use spotify on my iphone and amazon fire tv.
I’ve had zero problems.
my only request is higher volume maybe?
the penalty was too light.
players should be suspended for at least a year.
itunes and windows = bad combination
why do you use addict?
is that the native android podcast player?
the founding fathers were not fans of democracy
One of the authentic touches in Patrick O’Brian’s Aubrey-Maturin novels is that, to both of them, democracy is a dirty word.
Podcast Addict was recommended by some techie blog site. If there’s a native Android podcast player, I suppose it would be Google Play Music, which isn’t bad.
Clayton Kershaw threw 51 sliders and curveballs and zero swings and misses in game 5 at minute maid park in 2017 world series
The astros took cheating to a new level.
The team should be suspended for a year.
The title should be vacated.
it’s not about privacy.
it’s about rules and cheating.
you can’t have a videocamera in center field relaying signs to the home team in real time
I’m 90 percent sure it’s related to
