You Can’t Lockdown Gravy, Baby

Our most-requested episode every year looks a little different than usual (like everything else amirite?) but some things never change. Kelly Maher and Lyndsey Fifield talk turkey (no, literally – trigger warning for discussions of turkey death), traditions, family, recipes… and you know, we take a couple rabbit trails to tell stories because THIS IS WHO WE ARE. Tuck in—and enjoy! Happy Thanksgiving!

And if you’re looking for a good post-Thanksgiving podcast to listen to, Ladybrains listener (“Ladybrainiac”) Jenna Stocker will be the guest on The Half Percent Podcast to talk about her experience as a Marine. Subscribe now to the Half Percent Podcast at Apple Podcasts, Spotify, etc., and you’ll get Jenna’s episode on November 27 (the day after Thanksgiving). Just search for “The Half Percent.”

Another entertaining and engaging episode! Definitely lol’d at Kelly’s ‘burner turkey’. What I love is the tribute to the ceremony of both Thanksgiving & Lyndsey’s dinner party mishap. We put care into these celebrations for our friends and family to show our love. I’m going to nominate my husband for sainthood here because my Thanksgiving traditional is to have a full meltdown and threaten to not go to dinner because I royally screw up a dish I’m supposed to bring. Last year it was the unfortunate attempt at a unicorn cake for my niece’s Thanksgiving birthday. I’d be the first cast-off for the British Baking Show, but what good tv I’d make! Thanks again, Ladies, for a great conversation.

I’ll be honest, I’m not crazy about most Thanksgiving food…. I like the rolls, macaroni & cheese, and the desserts, but that’s about it. Haha. I think if I were the one “in charge” of Thanksgiving, I’d make it a tradition to have something fun and non-traditional.

That would be fine with me. Although I am in most circumstances a traditionalist, if I came to a holiday meal with different foods, I would not find that odd.

We are still hoping to get to our daughter’s for Thanksgiving (Covid-19 test of granddaughter pending), and have no problem with her decision this year to smoke a pork butt, or her more frequent decision to go with German sausage, sauerkraut, and gnocchi .

Ooh I love gnocchi! I just said a prayer for you and your family – I hope you do get to spend Thanksgiving together. :)
