I guess I will have to start tuning in now.
I’d love to be part of your poll, but I’m not on Twitter.
I’ve learned a lot about what goes into cleaning supplies, so if you do want to talk about how to DIY cleaning supplies, let me know. Vinegar is not bad, it’s just not the be all, end all of cleaning supplies. (For example, vinegar is great on scale and mineral deposits)
Acid (sour) cleaners are good on hard water stains / scale and cleaning chrome metal. Commercial cleaners use hydrochloric or phosphoric acid. Lemon juice or vinegar work, just slower. Soda / Pop has small amounts of phosphoric acid.
Alkali (bitter) cleaners are good on greasy stains. Most powdered detergents use soda ash / washing soda as a base – it is cheap and effective, and it makes soap clean better. Baking soda is also good here, though less powerful. Commercial high-power detergents often use lye / caustic soda for the grease-cutting power. That stuff is serious business – gloves and eye protection are necessary – but it is very effective.
Soap is fairly underrated on its own. Soapy water cleans a lot of surfaces, and washes off germs quite well.
This podcast inspired me to write this post: Facebook Game
And to look up the Beyonce picture.
Yeah. That’s the snap of MY mother I’d want to hang on the wall after I was born. ;) Geez.
Olivia, Eileen, Flannery, Florence Electa. (Grand and great grandmothers all. I had two boys so couldn’t use any of them). Congrats!
These are awesome! I love old names.
