Someone will eventually mention how much this crazy Bernie bro that shot Scalise looks like Walter Sobchak.
I think the media’s culture of blood libel is an aggravating factor.
I think the wink-and-nod moral license for violence is aggravating
The celebration of violent fantasies is aggravating
The overheated rhetoric is aggravating
I agree that I don’t want people to stop talking about ideas. By all means disagree about Obamacare’s repeal.
I disagree with Jim Gerhety on this. Propoganda does lead to violence, the first half of the 20th century demonstrates that. Germany, Russia, china, south america, cuba, et al.
I am sympathetic to Bernie here. I don’t think he has any actual influence, he is finding out that he is the maguffin in this plot.
I think we have a frankenstien’s monster situation here.
HAHA, I was just coming over here to say the same thing. It’s practically a Walter cosplay.
Miller nails it, but it is not that a level of violence has become acceptable to the left. The far left has been violent from the beginning everywhere, whether in it’s Castro, Pol Pot, Stalinist or Mao form when in power, or all of their movements when they were seeking power successfully or not, it’s true in their National Socialist form acquiring power and exercising it. The left was violent in the Philippines, in all of Central and Latin America. In the US in the SDS, Bill Ayers form in the sixties, and other minority aberrations it was violent, used violence and violent rhetoric. What has happened is that this far left now run the media, our universities, and the democratic party. They were the baby boomer population that severed their connection to our history, morality, traditions because they were the first generation to primarily interact with each other, other adolescents so they were the first generation of people who never fully grew up, and many of them remain intellectually and morally stunted and found it natural to absorb the leftist narrative. And that is where we are, the anti democratic, anti freedom, anti American , and violent left now run the Democratic party, the media and our educational institutions. Even those innocent souls who have absorbed Democratic false narratives by osmosis from the media and their education who would never shoot, bomb, or even hit anyone, have reached the level of hate where they would willingly accept that conservatives be rounded up and reeducated, or allow Republican lives to be destroyed because they are members of the hated tribe. The shooting focuses the mind, but it doesn’t tell us anything we shouldn’t have already known. We have to find ground up, non government approaches to reversing these insanities but it’s not obvious what. School choice and ceasing to subsidize aberrant universities is something we can do state by state with help by budget cutting at the Federal level.
I agree with so much about this, but I do hope you’re wrong about Jon Ossoff squeaking it out over Karen Handel. That story will be made larger than the second coming of Christ. And it will show the Democratic Party that what they are doing is working.
So I don’t know how you “shut down” the Left.
I also don’t ever know how to process Bernie Sanders per his relationship with guns and his rhetoric about Giffords. He is not exactly anti-gun, right? Vermont is one of the most pro-gun states in the nation.
In light of how he fundraised on violence whatever his statement now, I am very tired of hearing–not from you here but from the people who love him–how “principled” he is… how “sincere” he is.
Regardless, I am very, very grateful that this shooting wasn’t worse, and I hope that Scalise has a speedy recovery.
Jon / Steve,
Great job on this. Incredibly helpful when voices that haven’t been been reflexively pro-Trump reiterate the severity of media bias & Left’s proclivity for violence.
Your Twitter followers should join Ricochet and listen to Conservatarians. Twitter is fun, but your podcast reveals tone & nuance not nearly possible in 140 written characters.
Looking forward to Steve continuing down the road to “full Schlichter.” ?
Steven mentioned an article in I think the Washington Post that ran down a bunch of times the media tried to hang a violent shooting on the right and it turned out to be not the case. The guys said they’d put a link up, but I don’t see it. Anyone know what that link is?
I found that yesterday, it was the NY Post, almost 5 years ago:

@kylez, thank you so much for finding it! I couldn’t get the names right from the quick mention.
Yeah, i had to relisten to that part and type key words.
