While I am not ready to say that Stephen Miller is wrong in his contention that it is the job of the Press Secretary to lie, I think the statement is over the top, and that is up to him to back it up. It is easy to talk about Obama’s Press Secretary as having lied. What is the exact lie that Dana Perino told? If he can’t offer a specific example, I’d suggest that he stop attacking people like Dana (and Tony Snow, for that matter), who may “spin” something (we all do that). I believe people like Dana and Tony try their best, and to use the word “Lie” is to defame very good people.

    @ George Townsend:

A spin,,,, or a lie? I think that is a distinction without a difference. Miller is just voicing what a lot of us out here in flyover country see, hear and absolutely detest. He also made it very clear that he was not attacking the people that have been WH Press Secs., just the position.

I’m sorry, I do not take back my umbrage at Miller’s comments:

    1. You are quite right that he made it clear that he meant the position and not the person. Talk about a distinction without a difference, this is it. What is the difference between saying that the position calls for a liar, but you are not calling the person who holds it a lair? To say there is a difference is to strain credulity. And I happen to think that calling people liars is a serious thing.
    2. There is a real difference between a spin and a lie. If you dented the fender on the way out of the parking lot, you fess up it: “Yes, I did that. I was in a hurry, and…” That is spin. You don’t lie about it.

You and Miller are just wrong. Whether you are in “flyover” country or not.

It doesn’t take much in Trump space to overshadow any good that’s getting done. It’s going to be this way for the rest of the ride. Good economy? So what? Trump banged porn stars.

I was a bit surprised to hear the rationalization for “what-aboutism”, though – because I’m pretty sure I’ve heard the contrary argument on this podcast before. I think it’s perfectly fine to say “what about” when pointing out hypocrisy; in previous pods that approach was sort of brushed aside as what-aboutism, and not a great argument.

Good pod this week. Thanks guys.
