Much Ado About Wonder Woman

Stephen Miller (aka @RedSteeze) bought a ticket to Wonder Woman and the internet lost its collective mind. Alamo Drafthouse intended the viewing to be women-only … until Stephen decided to join them. The Conservatarians co-host returns from vacation to talk about his trip to the movies, the international media coverage it garnered, and the people on the right and left who tried to co-opt it.

Jon’s song of the week is “Lawman” by Girl Band, and Stephen’s is “Apocalypse” by Cigarettes After Sex. To listen to all the music featured on The Conservatarians, subscribe to our Spotify playlist. You also should subscribe to this podcast and give it five-star, glowing reviews on iTunes!

I love the Wonder Woman theme to the old Linda Carter TV show. It has such a great baseline.

Also, this was a great wrap up to the movie controversy. I think you teased out the correct lessons–Twitter is nothing like real life and media will try to take advantage of any controversy.

The 2016 Ghostbusters bombed because it was not funny. (And I was not that impressed with Wonder Woman. I thought it covered much of the same ground as the first Captain America, but didn’t do it as well.)

Stephen, you said that the Daily Show email referenced the gender discrimination angle, but I think you miss the point of that.  I suspect it was bait.  I think they thought they could get into your confidence by playing up that as the reason for their interest, based on what they thought your biases were, and what your intention of going to the women-only screening was.

Cigarettes After Sex has planted an earworm deep inside my branial cavity.  I don’t need REO Speedwagon churning through muh wee melon all day.  For several days.

Although earworms are less painful than boreworms.

I think it was great to call out the hypocrisy of the Left in a dignified way, and I didn’t understand any of the arguments on the right that discouraged the simple act of buying a movie ticket per the laws of the land.

As I said elsewhere, I’m also not at all surprised that there wasn’t a last stand at the Alamo, a great movie chain in general, though I’m left wondering about the missing milkshake.  ;)

Would a woman who wears a burka go to a movie with a Jewish Wonder Woman?
