What started it all? I think it might be the Iraq war under 43. During the run-up, anyone who spoke against it was called unpatriotic. 15 years ago in the shadow of 9/11, being called unpatriotic meant something. It was the lie that started the hyperbolic name calling and Bush/Cheney and the Right went hard at anyone that got in the way of their call for war.
Clinton impeachment. The 60’s love child generation, the causeheads, the anti-authority rock and roll Woodstock generation that was cooler than anyone had finally “won” and Republicans tried to take away their victory.
a lot of Gen X’s politics were trying to replicate that. They even had two of their own Woodstocks. :)
I think Stephen nailed it though when he said the media is going to try to keep this bomber in the news and hang it around everyone on the right’s heads, even NeverTrump. The Caravan is going down the memory hole until the day after the Democrats take the House, then the pressure will be put on for the Democrats to let them in.

Hey, conservatives were not losing, they were winning in courts on policy technicalities that nobody ever heard about, understood, or cared about. On the other side SSM became legal and any possible suggestion that you are not with the program gets your business / livelihood destroyed. Obama gets shoved up our backside sideways. The Deplorables are raciest and need to be punched. The tea party protester are openly called ball suckers every day on the air….
The hosts need to get out in the real word and see what the rest of the world deals with outside their little conservative bubble.
Sixties and been ramping up every since. They hated Nixon, Reagan, Bush, W, McCain, Romney, Trump…. Each one a little worse until eventual they win since there is nothing but victory for them. If you think the Trump hatred is bad wait for the next Republican POTUS (if there is one).
