The dust jacket biography on Nye’s 2015 Undeniable: Evolution and the Science of Creation describes him as a “scientist.” As far as I know, Nye has an undergraduate degree in engineering, and no professional standing (peer-reviewed papers published, research completed, post-secondary teaching, industry experience). Can anyone explain to me how this actor qualifies as a “scientist”?
He plays one on TV?
It’s simple really. He wore a bow tie and a white coat on TV. Also there was an erlenmeyer flask filled with dry ice and green food coloring water in the background. It don’t get no more science than that!
Small point of order: Bill Nye actually got his start on a Seattle-based sketch comedy show, “Almost Live”. His Science Guy show came after.
There was the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009 which passed the House, but not the Senate. This was the first year of the Obama administration when the Democrats had large majorities of both houses.
