BuzzFeed’s Ben Smith

Jon Gabriel (@ExJon) and Stephen Miller (@RedSteeze) welcome BuzzFeed‘s Editor-in-Chief, Ben Smith (@BuzzFeedBen). They chat about Trump tweets, fake news, and how Facebook and Twitter are dealing with both. Then, Stephen and Jon talk about Gold Star parents and Gen. Kelly’s mic drop on the subject.

The intro/outro song is “#53” by Weaves. Jon’s song of the week is “Älgen” by Amason and Stephen’s is “Paola” by Shout Out Louds. To listen to all the music featured on The Conservatarians, subscribe to our Spotify playlist.

Ben Smith? You talked to Ben Smith . . . about fake news? You mean as one of the chief purveyors of it?

Mr. Smith should be aware of his over and inappropriate use of the word “like”. It is very annoying. He also sounds as though he is constantly sneering.

Is there a refutation up anywhere of that BuzzFeed piece?

I’m not sure what you mean. Are you suggesting that the Trump/Russia Dossier is all true?

No, I think it was a ginned up DNC oppo hit job, which, when coupled with the Uranium One story leaks, tells a story of corruption and collusion that far exceeds any supposed peripheral contacts between the Trump campaign and Russia.

MY MISTAKE. I thought the link went to something else;  I opened another tab for the link but mistakenly clicked on another open tab, which was a Forbes story about the BuzzFeed / Breitbart piece. MY MISTAKE.

That said, I would have loved to have Smith on as a guest, to ask him about the very issue you raised, as well as the profane idiocy of their primary product: F-word headlines for quizzes about cupcakes aimed at adult women in their early 20s who want to know which Disney princess they are.

    Good show.

I would like Jon Gabriel to do all future shows in his NPR voice.

And I think he should ask us to visit Dollar Shave Club and make a pledge.

(On a more serious note, the Benghazi summary was very good.)
