Bernie vs. Workers

The Mueller hearings were yet another bust; why did Democrats think they would work this time? And Bernie Sanders finally observes the economy in the real world as his campaign staff demands unionization and a $15 minimum wage. Will he hire some Pinkertons or just replace his workers with kiosks? And … when do we start bombing Sweden?

The intro/outro song and Stephen’s song of the week is “Help Me Stranger” by The Raconteurs. Jon’s song of the week is “That’s Just the Way That I Feel” by Purple Mountains. To listen to all the music featured on The Conservatarians, subscribe to our Spotify playlist!

Forget Zero Dark 30. Think “Canadian Bacon” … “release the girl pronto, or we’ll level Toronto!” Instantly made this movie a favorite in Canada. What is Trump’s delay in attacking Sweden? He needs congressional approval to use special forces on white people. (that’s a joke from Canadian Bacon, if you haven’t seen the movie)

Its a great prospect – send in James O’Keefe as a union organizer to all the campaign offices – see how quickly and rudely they turf him out of there.

    Great talk.

    To paraphrase Bernie:

Maybe it’s a good thing that Bernie Sanders doesn’t pay his campaign workers up to $15 per hour. From a certain point of view this actually enhances his argument for government intervention with establishing a $15/hr minimum rather than being ridiculed for being hypocritical. After all, since Bernie has an unquestionable dedication to the establishment of a $15 standard, the fact that he doesn’t do that in his own organization reveals that even the most honorable promotors of it still can’t be freed from the market-type capitalist behavior of exploitation.  Therefore the Federal Government must be the actor that institutes it.

But on a less satirical note, don’t political campaigns also have volunteers that work for the candidate on a temporary basis? As in regular people donating time without monetary compensation because those volunteers believe in the political candidate being good for public office. But I suppose one could consider making a living-wage career out of constantly campaigning with a permanent political figure always running for office and fund raising. Yes, the all important funding raising. Send money now. Here’s an alarming email, etc. But I suppose if politics is your life, then why not seek out getting paid to do it from another source.

Nobody covers the coverage of the news like Stephen Miller, and I loved his observation about how Newsweek decided to spin Sanders’ — uh — unsocialist treatment of his employees this week.   Perfect.

I have been listening to this podcast since the beginning and I think this is the first intro/outro music that has made me stop and go look it up.  I’m familiar with Jack White and like him when I hear him, but I only know him from The White Stripes and his solo work.  I did not know this band exists.  I really liked “Help Me Stranger” and will check out the rest of their catalog.

They always say they are going to “get” Trump or the Trump family and then “crickets”. Don was going to jail. Insanely long article about taxes in the New York Times. The charity. They tried to get Jerome Corsi to make stuff up, and then no charges. Stormy Daniels. Endless sex assault accusations.  Ostensibly smart people get all excited but they never think any of this stuff through. They don’t get anymore data. The tax one was really bad. It was so obvious within a couple of days that they had nothing.

In the previous musiscribe life, The White Stripes was pitched to me so hard when that band broke. “Meg! Girl drummer!” I just…couldn’t. Not sexist, Gina Schock is lovely and she can play. Torry Castellano (aka Donna C) went to a rival high school (screw Palo Alto, M-A all the way). More people should know who Terri Lyne Carrington or Anika Nilles are. Well, musicians know.

Was just meh about the Stripes when they came out, although I’ve been fine with some of Jack’s later iterations. Wish I’d paid better attention to that other Detroit band, Electric Six. Tyler Spencer is nuts. And brilliant.

wrt the Democrats “The media demands we take their policies seriously.” – apparently except when they don’t want them to be – ‘I didn’t actually mean for anyone to take me prediction that we only have 13 years left to fix global climate change seriously. You’d have to be an idiot to think I was serious’ (something to that affect, a few weeks ago, AOC).

Hey, I’d be happy if ALL the rappers went to Sweden.  And good riddance!

Hillary mishandled classified information while not being president.  Sailors who send selfies to their family taken in the engine room of a submarine, go to prison.  So indeed, lock her up!  It’s nothing to do with her being an opposition candidate.
