Hallowe’en Spooktacular 2019
It’s time for the HWX Halloween Spooktacular as Brian Ward and Paul Happe gather to discuss all the things that frighten them, including:
  • Greta Thunberg’s “Tales of Terror”
  • Democratic candidates are being frighteningly disingenuous
  • Is there anything scarier than “grabbing a beer with Elizabeth Warren” or hanging out in Mayor Pete’s crime ridden, urban decaying city?
  • Ken Burns creepy new project
  • The insane prospect of permanent impeachment
  • A psychopath is making calls to the Ukraine

I believe the Dem spokesperson (can I say person? – perhaps just Democrat) is correct. Paul and Brian are obviously only podcasting on the whitest of whitest, hetero of hetero, etc of etc times of the year. Please guys don’t telegraph your non-SJW status so much! More podcasts all the time will keep the SJWs guessing your true thinking.

What was that song with the edgy slide guitar? I thought sounded pretty good until the “singer” came on with the same word over and over.

The song is “Don’t Worry Kyoko (Mummy’s Only Looking for Her Hand In the Snow)” by Plastic Ono Band, one of the greatest wastes of talent ever in the history of music.

Eric Clapton plays lead guitar, John Lennon is on rhythm guitar, Klaus Voormann on bass, and Ringo Starr on drums for this version of the song. In 1969, they played a live concert in Toronto (with future Yes drummer Alan White replacing Ringo) that was recorded and released as “Live Peace in Toronto, 1969.” The first side of the album features Lennon on vocals singing rock standards (Blue Suede Shoes, Money (That’s What I Want), Dizzy Miss Lizzy) and some of his original songs (Yer Blues, Cold Turkey, Give Peace a Chance). It’s rough, but definitely fun to hear a rare Clapton/Lennon jam session? The second side is all Yoko Ono on vocals featuring this song and an even more unlistenable song called John, John (Let’s Hope for Peace).

The commentary on the HWX has always been of such consistent high quality that I considered every episode “special.”

Having to wait 300 days between episodes (so long that HWX was removed from the drop-down list of podcasts) somehow makes it less special.

If I had more HWX podcasts available, I’d be less likely to make the mistake of listening to another dreckful mess like that What the He[ck] is Going On thing.

    Gimme more!

Great episode, guys! “Have you checked on the children?” made me laugh out loud.

But wait – what were you drinking??
