Mike Stopa relaying fake news?
Can you really judge Kavanaugh’s performance if you didn’t see it in the live crucible? Judging credibility and authenticity via second hand written accounts is pretty dubious.
And whose accounts were you reading? Captain Kristol, Rosa Klebb Rubin and Vox?
Keep in mind that Kavanaugh wasn’t responding solely to charges of drunken teen groping but to orchestrating gang rapes along the eastern seaboard, charges which Feinstein noted a number of times.
Ockham’s Razor gents. If you are the tip of the spear being thrust into Kavanaugh’s back on the last day of the confirmation battle, you don’t simply find yourself there by happenstance. Women don’t misidentify one (let alone two) perpetrators of a sexual assault when they’ve previously known the perpetrators.
Ford is a very cunning liar.
You guys really need to hang with more conservative women. They see through Ford like an open double door.
I cannot believe any one, any person smart enough to feed themselves and cross the street alone could fall for this. Truly amazing.
If we as a country accept this then every wackado sociology / Lesbian dance theory professor becomes a new branch of government that out ranks the senate.
Madness.

What do women think of Kavanaugh? Well, frankly, it doesn’t matter. We’re not supposed to elect Supreme Court justices by proxy. But thanks to the Seventeenth Amendment and the erosion of various procedural norms, we now do just that. What ought to be a simple process has become a political pandemonium. Presidents now have an incentive to nominate politically viable candidates, rather than legally qualified ones.

I’m back. I was on vacation last week but did listen to your post-Kavanaugh/Ford hearing podcast and enjoyed the opera interlude. Speaking as a woman, I so want Kavanaugh to be confirmed. Why should anyone have to ‘make up for’ women feeling vunerable in society. If they feel that way, lets go back to Victorian times and they can all stay home. Reality check – men are (generally) bigger and (generally) stronger than women. Let’s act accordingly and remove women from policing, fire fighting, and the military. There ladies do you feel better now? I’m sorry but the Holton Arms women were part of that prep school scene and were drinking and making out too. Does that mean anyone should be attacked? – of course not but Ford’s story is just that – a story. Feinburg you need to hang out with a better class of women – and or buy them a hand gun and get them some NRA training!
It’s a disgraceful episode in American history, but more fascinating themes have been suppressed than explored.
Ford’s claims are only taken seriously because of her privilege, prep school and DC society connections and, if she is to be believed, only resurfaced while remodeling her $4 million house!
Kavanaugh and Trump should be thankful for the class and educational bubble of Democratic operatives. What if these claims had been made by a barmaid abused during Beach Week? A white working class mom who had lived a hardish life with no obvious political grudges who could claim she had voted to make America great again. Maybe she is a straightshooting, solid middle aged woman with no annoying valley girl tics and tactical weaknesses.
She might think she’d seen a hippocampus on a school trip with her twins, but she could have taken out Kavanaugh.
A bay area left-wing psych professor at a woo woo lefty college is not exactly a guided missile at MAGA or the DC GOP.
Colleen, looks like you are with everyone here that thinks we were too easy on Blasey Ford. But Todd did have a point that *some* women have been triggered by Kavanaugh and these stories about him. The media has had some success especially for those who don’t analyze. That is, the general impression they’ve generated is that there are all these allegations about Kavanaugh so he must be guilty of *something*. So the Democrat-media axis is pretty insidious in being able to conjure stuff up out of nothing.
@MichaelStopa: Agree that the media and some women have and/or are trying to convince people that there is something there. Agree that there are women who feel triggered by what they think Kavanaugh might have done. The old ‘where there’s smoke there’s fire.’ But really, that is the way we’re going to judge people for the Supreme Court or anything else? On another podcast John Yoo says that the only way to stop this is for the Republicans to bork a Democrat nominee – then the Democrats might stop it. I don’t like it but Professor Yoo may be right. Sigh.
So Mike, did you buy any puts on Nike yourself? Unfortunately, its harder to look at historical prices on puts. It looks like it would have been hard to make money on the October puts but that might just be because the expiration is so close.
Regarding Kavanaugh’s “performance”, if performance it was during the she said, he said part of the hearings.
There are lots of “triggers” that will inflame many women. One of them is when a man uses a woman’s tactics against them, which essentially is what Kavanaugh did. And what about those women who turn around and question the veracity of Kavanaugh’s “performance”?
They’re projecting.
Alas Joe I did not. Latest quarterly report was Sept 24. NKE was at 84.79. If I had just shorted it that day I’d have made 4.50 a share by now about 5%. And if it cracks 80 it might really fall. Serves me right for not putting my money where my mouth is.
I was gong to comment that not all women are Trump haters but I see others have made the point already. By the way, my four closest friends all align on the Right politically. They are a highly educated, well-travelled, articulate bunch too and are uncomfortable with the stereotyping.
I’m coming in late to the fair here, but every woman who spoke to me about it and several others in the punditry were disgusted with and called BS on Ford’s ‘little girl voice ‘ especially coming 36 years after the event.
Partly confirmation bias. First, you are coming late to the fair, and people are starting to get over the “hangover” and rethink things.
Also, while I don’t know you, you’re saying the women approached you, not the other way around. They probably know your views already, so women who disagree with you aren’t approaching you about it.
And maybe all the women you know are better tempered.
