USAF veteran Chris joins the show and talks about his time as a Crew Chief/Instructor on the F-15 Fighter Jet. Chris details what it takes to keep those birds in the air and the camaraderie and sense of purpose one gets from being on the line. Chris is now an airline pilot, as well as training pilot for advanced military jet skills for aviators.

Fascinating conversation about life in the Air Force and what a great stepping stone to a successful career it can be. I would have liked to hear more about the F-15 specifically, as it came into service when I was very young and has always been one of my favorite jet fighters.

We used to go to the air show at Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage back in the day, a major F-15 base until the F-22’s replaced them. I was always amazed at how terrifying the F-15 sounded from the ground during demonstrations. One year they had an A-10 visit for the show and I was equally amazed at how quiet it was in comparison, until the gun went off and made everything go boom and flame. It was a joy. Nowadays we live in an area where the “heavies” pass directly over our roof, three at a time during training days. They’re also a sight to behold.
That is so cool. I’ve seen (and heard) many of those planes when I was younger coming out of Beale AFB and Edwards AFB. And then every time we would be in San Diego, the Navy planes coming out of Coronado and down in El Centro. Never gets old.
