Never Go Full GLoP

It’s a new month and that means a new GLoP. They eschew all of the obvious cultural issues in the news (despite some prodding from outside parties, ahem) and concentrate on –not kidding– Mickey Rooney, robot babies, the problem with private schools, Gone With The Wind, Tropic Thunder, and some gossip from down south.

Subscribe to GLoP Culture in Apple Podcasts (and leave a 5-star review, please!), or by RSS feed. For all our podcasts in one place, subscribe to the Ricochet Audio Network Superfeed in Apple Podcasts or by RSS feed.

(Miranda meets Spock coming out of Kollos’ quarters.)

SPOCK: The Enterprise is at stake. It is not possible for you to be involved.

MIRANDA: Why? I’ve already committed myself to mind-link when Kollos and I reach the Medusan vessel. Why put yourself in jeopardy?

SPOCK: This is not a duty that you can assume. I am aware of the fact that your telepathic competence might be superior to mine, but there’s a more important factor. The object is to pilot this ship. That is something you cannot do.

MIRANDA: Then teach me to operate the ship. I can memorise instantly.

MCCOY: Now wait a minute. I realise that you can do almost anything a sighted person can do, but you can’t pilot a starship.

    KIRK: What?

    SPOCK: Fascinating.

MCCOY: I’m sorry, Miranda, but you must be realistic. You are blind, and there are some things you simply cannot do.

(Spock touches the decorated over-dress she always wears.)

SPOCK: Evidently a highly sophisticated sensor web. My compliments to you, and to your dressmaker.

KIRK: Yes, of course. It’s the only reasonable explanation. You can’t see and Kollos can’t hurt you.

If anyone’s interested, that’s the Norman Rockwell painting “Gossips,” an idea he later reworked into the 1976 Bell System Bicentennial phone book cover

Wow, I guess Norman Rockwell (1894-1978) was still alive in 1976, but he seems like a figure from an earlier and different time.

With former President Trump not allowing the RNC and other organizations to use his name, I wonder if this will help the institutional party.  It looses the advantage of Trump, so they may just move on and ignore him.  Trumpism was built on publicity, and if that drys out, he goes away.

One shouldn’t expect good political commentary from an entertainment podcast, so it’s not a surprise that the guys get the fundraising topic wrong. You have a political party that worked against its president and wants to return to its uniparty ways. However, the rubes love the guy so the party leaders figure that they can slap Trump’s image on funding letters, milk some money out of the voters, and go back to nominating McCains and Romneys. Trump realizes that the party hates him but somehow wants to still use his name. Forget that.

Putting all the politics at the very end was a good move

I liked the bit where Rob is plugging the martini shot and when mentioning podcast distribution services forgets to mention the one he founded.

Ok, so granted that it can be good for the Republican party to be destroyed because [plausible reasons cited by R. Long].

But can we hope first for the destruction of the party of slavery, rebellion, segregation, government dependency, abortion extremism, and anti-Constitutionalism?

This was the funniest GLoP in a while. I’ve been away for a bit- I find the haters so strange. Why waste your time? Or is it…oh, you want to be friends?
