And The Winner Is…

Since our last show was recorded on location at political ground zero (at least for that week) and was almost all about the race, the men of GLoP insisted that for this show we throw politics to the side of the road and riff on whatever comes to mind. That includes a long windup to the start of the show (Rob insisted we keep it in) their favorite books, how to fix Twitter, The Walking Dead, beloved but long unseen sitcoms, and of course the annual GLoP Oscar picks.

Twitter lost $521m in 2015.  That is to say that their expenses exceeded revenues by that much.

Perhaps banning McCain will help, else they can “make it up on volume”.

For clarity, this means that Ricochet is more profitable than Twitter.

    Their expenses are pretty high.

Edit:   Dang – somebody beat me to it.

Totally agree wRob:  Hail, Ceasar was a real snoozer.  Wasn’t even funny. Surprised so many big names were in it.

I thought I’d never laugh again while watching our future get Trumped, and you have me wiping tears from my face by 2:30.

What could possibly go wrong, after all?

Does anyone remember the name of the erotic bakery mentioned in the episode?  Did it have a name? I think it even advertised on WNEW-fm in the 1970’s.  Or maybe I’m confusing it with the Pink Pussycat Boutique?

Listened to this in the afterglow of the debate. Cool conceit, well executed. We should all laugh more, eh?

Preserving today’s GLoP on permanent media in my New Zealand hidey-hole, so as to preserve a memory of the before-time. It will sit next to my Bill Shatner truss, in which I will read the E Plebnista every winter solstice.

OMG, I’m listening to the opening and giggling uncontrollably in my work cube. My cow-orkers must think I have Tourette’s or something.

I started this up as soon as my car hit the interstate for my hour-long commute.  Even before the Mannix theme came in, I was nearly spitting out my coffee from laughing so hard at Rob’s “This is a metaphor—John is the Republican establishment:  befuddled, and doesn’t know what to say until they know who’s paying them!”  Luckily, I maintained excellent control of the car.

I am so glad y’all left that in!

Also, I think I have a better understanding of what this university is—the one named for someone on TV.  I was really scratching my head on that reference in the debate last night.

It’s not the theme from Mannix, it’s Battle Without Honor or Humanity from the Kill Bill soundtrack.

Ohhhh!  I’d had that misidentified ever since that early episode when they were talking about the Mannix theme (or just the show itself), and that soundtrack was used for the first time.  I just assumed that’s what it was…since I have never seen Mannix.

    Thanks for straightening me out.

    2. In The Man in the High Castle they do watch the film.

We actually considered using the Mannix theme for GLoP, but thought it was too on the nose.

Just played the Mannix theme link. That’s actually pretty good. It reminds me somehow of the Odd Couple theme—not the melody, of course, but the arrangement and style. Admittedly, it was the same decade.

Most generous but please review the references to Invasion of the Body Snatchers and Walking Dead references and realize that the current style here in the USA is PARANOID.  Couple that with the fact that every current Ricochet member has watched at least 25 Twilight Zone marathons in their lifetimes and don’t get your hopes up.  Assuming there is such a place as New Zealand, we show up, are immediately greeted by a cardboard cutout of the Very, Very Great Man (Everyone Says So), enter the unaccredited reeducation (very expensive but totally, totally worth it) camp and soon find our vocabularies limited to “location, location, location,” “always be closing,” and “goddamnit am I tired of winning.”  Nice try.
